Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Future Wii price drop / GC price drop

I'm just wondering that when the Wii eventually stops selling in huge numbers at it's current price point if a price drop will mean an explosion in sale again.

What happened to GC sales in USA when the price dropped because it wasn't selling well?

I seem to remember it had a resurgence at that point which at least brought it up to semi respectable final sales numbers in USA at least.

 Or am I incorrect?

Brought back memories of going into stores in UK such as Currys Dixons, PC world, Game, Blockbusters etc and  seeing Nintendo games and consoles in a corner at the very back of the store before the GC eventually disappeared completely from so many stores.

What a difference a few years make!

The reality is that Nintendo won't let it stop selling "Huge Numbers" before they drop the price.

The-Magicbox.com has a blurb up currently which states that Nintendo has announced they're increasing Wii production in the next fiscal year. If Nintendo increases supply enough (say 2.5 Million units per month), and no longer has to worry about a constant sell out, they could reduce the price of the system to encourage higher sales.

Some people may ask why Nintendo would sell 2.5 Million Wii systems a month at $200 when they can make the same revenue by selling 2 Million Wii systems a month at $250 with lower costs. The reason is that Nintnedo is not a hardware company, and they make the bulk of their revenue through software sales which will benefit greatly by higher hardware sales. At the same time, higher hardware sales act as a (very good) incentive to attract greater (in size and quality) third party support.

happysqurriel, at games-asia you can always buy a wiifit game for 189.90$ so i think it's not so difficult.

So at an importer (who is selling the game for 2.5 times what it costs in stores) it is readily available means that  Wii Fit is readily available in stores?

DS Lite was introduced in 2006 at $129.

North America

The Nintendo DS Lite was released on June 11, 2006, for US$129.99 in the United States, and CA$149.99 in Canada.[12] (March for Japan)

Almost two years later, it is still $129 due to demand. The Wii will stay there as well, until demand drops off or supplies overwhelm demand (less likely, N. is too conservative to get 'wild' with supply).

Torturing the numbers.  Hear them scream.

I really hope they do make another price cut on Gamecubes. And then accompany that with a sale on duct tape.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

I don't think the price is holding anybody back, but I assume it would still raise.

i disagree because my gf's aunt wanted to get one for her children but couldn't afford it.  there a lots of poor people that must be careful about every single dollar they spend.
