Haven't played TR but this comparison is ridiculous lol. The Arkham-Uncharted lovechild vs. cinematic DMC in ancient Greece. I couldn't compare these 2 in a million years. Though TR looks excellent and I will be picking it up eventually. GoW was excellent and got me legitimately interested in a MP aspect for the first time since...LBP2 probably.

I somehow didn't notice DMC predates GoW. Its clear DMC did inspire the GoW series. And here I thought GoW was original. Silly me.

I mean I like GoW but not DMC, but I'm not exactly a hack n' slash enthusiast.  GoW gives us a more simplified (but still challenging if you play on the hardest difficulty) hack n' slash experience in an awesome setting with imo the best boss fights in the industry.  I don't know how SSM always gives me a new kind of epic but even with a prequel and using the B list of Greek mythology they did it again with Hecatoncires (that is probably butchered) and the final boss fight.  Also the oracle fight was pretty damn awesome and unique.

Did you truly think that or are you just saying that?

I didn't like the first God of War and I'm not a fan of the whole button masher genre, with one or two exceptions, so I haven't seriously played any but the first one. But I have played Tomb Raider, my first play through was 21 1/2 hours without 100% anything and I loved every minute of it. Tomb Raider is currently my game of the year.

Well I'm not saying it was a complete clone.

But it clearly was the inspiration. I just somehow missed that.

I didn't own a PS2 and I wasn't on top of gaming news after the Dreamcast died. I was eventually given an original Xbox and got into gaming again.

When I actually started playing the GoW games, the 360 and PS3 were already out. I assumed the GoW games were old, but they came out late in the PS2's life.

I didn't own a PS2 and I wasn't on top of gaming news after the Dreamcast died. I was eventually given an original Xbox and got into gaming again. For the record, Orignal Xbox > PS2.

When I actually started playing the GoW games, the 360 and PS3 were already out. So that's why I didn't know.

Original Xbox > PS2? Sure, whatever floats your boat. But that's irrelevant anyway. Back to GoW...it doesn't take much to see know that God of War drew inspiration from other games. The fact you've been a member here for over three years tells me you should have known GoW wasn't original.

I wasn't a huge fan of that gen so I didn't follow that closely. I was aware of DMC but for some reasons my brain didn't put together God of War came several years later. I wasn't even aware Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox is also older than God of War.

Clearly I was ignorant on this subject. I stopped following hack n' slash games after I played Sword of the Berserk on the Dreamcast. The game that inspired them all!

Ha! Earlier in this thread I mentioned that I don't care for the genre with a few exceptions. Sword of the Berserk: Gut's Rage is one of those few exceptions!

It's a great game, a great anime, an amazing manga and a promising anime movie series.

The Dreamcast game is what got me into Berserk and now it's one of my favorite franchises. It's too bad the PS2 game never got an English release. Maybe the new anime movies will get popular enough to bring us some more Berserk games.

I hear ya, it literally pained me knowing a PS2 game existed but never came over. From what I've read there is an english patch, I need to look into that.

Sweet. I have a pirated of the Japanese game and a moded PS2. If it's patchable I'll definitly patch. The gameplay is good, but I think Gut's Rage is a better overall game. THe PS2 game has better graphics but it's more repetitive.
