...FFXIV was a really bad game and everybody knows it...

You just said FF games sell based on the name, you are contradicting yourself. This is not facebook guys, first build a concrete argument, then post.

Moving on...

I think this is a very understated issue but Naoki Yoshida is the man that will save Final Fantasy ! (Because as he said himself, if FF XIV fails again, it could be the end of Square itself)

The saviour

ok, your deep rebuttal is really impresive though...

ffXIV and FFXI are MMOs... no really front loaded games, but yet and despite the awful reviews FFXIV sold more than what it deserved IMO.

FF XIII didn't sell because...

Actually it did. Don't you feel a bit silly now writing that whole thing on a false assumption ?

FF13 sold 6.89 while FF7 sold 9.72 and FF10 sold 8.05. It didn't sell as well as the best selling Final Fantasy games. So no I don't feel silly.

But if it really bothers you that much go ahead and imagine that instead of "FF XIII didn't sell because..." I said, "FF XIII was disliked because...".

Hopefully if that make you happy you can consider the content of my point rather tha nitpick a debatable detail. The validity of my comments on what went wrong with FF13 are not bound to game sale statistics.

That argument is void of any significance whatsoever. The 90s was a different market. In fact each gen is a different market.

And "FF XIII was disliked because..." some of you people, two years later, still strive to make it out like FF XIII was recieved as negatively as RE 6 for example which is not the case. Metacritic has it on 80% for both critical and user.

I commented on what went wrong with Final Fantasy 13 and why people bitch about it still to this day. I personly don't have a problem with what FF13 is, but long standing FF fans were disapointed. You can quote as many review scores as you want, but the truth is that people don't have the love for FF13 that they do for other JRPGs and WRPGs. That's what I was commenting on.

You can find a group of people bitching about anything on the internet.

And I accept your apology about the meaningless sales comparison.

OMG I am a long standing FF fan (my first was FF6 way back around 1997 when I was still in school, long before university or travel).

FF13 makes my top 3 FF's of all time, something that not even FF6 does (it would be number 4), and nothing prior to FF8 does

Having now graduated university, and lived and worked in Japan.I know many 'long time FF fans' who would agree. There is a semi religion around FFX over there from my experience, and XIII's similarity to X in many aspects seems to keep it in high praise with a great many (again in my experience)

It is all subjective, and people do seem to like to moan about any and every single thing somewhere on the internet... , I wouldnt take a group moaning as any sort of 'proof' it was a bad game. Again it all seems to depend on the person playing it

Like I said, I have nothing against the game myself. You loving FF13 and your interest in Japan and your Japanese friends loving FF13 all pretty much supports my original point. My original point is not quoted here, but you can find it early in this thread. The basics of my point were that FF13 is very Japanese in style and western gamers prefer the kind of exploration that was absent in FF13.
