Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 720: Microsoft’s Race Against Time

Now that Sony has introduced the public to the Playstation 4, what will Microsoft’s move be?

Sony has thrown down the gauntlet. Ever since the reveal of their upcoming system, the Playstation 4, they have managed to set the bar in the eyes of the public of what to expect from the next generation of console gaming. As a result Sony’s eternal rival, Microsoft, is going to have to work fast if they are going to get their own next generation system into the spotlight.

According to “The Next Web.com,” and “Geek.com,” it would seem that due to Sony’s unexpected reveal, Microsoft has pushed up the timetable in revealing their next generation console, “the Xbox 720”, to next month as opposed to waiting to E3 as originally planned. While it makes sense from a company standpoint to try and sway the competition, you have to wonder if the new console is ready to perform. Microsoft won’t win points with anybody with a product that is rushed out the door. Other information on this new console is not too much more than rumors at this point due to the fact that Microsoft has not been able to officially reveal it yet.

However, some of the improvements speculated for the Xbox 720 include: a much more powerful processor, expanding motion controls, a switch to Blu-Ray, and supposedly a mechanism that will lock a video game disk so it will only work in specific consoles. At this point, a good bit of this is mere speculation from limited information provided by Microsoft. Rumors also abound on what games will be available on the new system, such as Bungie’s new game “Destiny” along with a new title by Bethesda and a few more according to IGN.com.

To me, there is a lot of promise for the Xbox 720 as well as more than a few concerns, the disk locking functionality to be more specific. Yet you can hardly blame Microsoft for now having to rush the reveal in order to keep up with the competition. That said, Microsoft will have to take extra care in making sure everything with the 720 is ready to show off. They have high expectations to meet this year and only time will tell if they can rise to meet it.

you like find negative blogs

They should just wait until E3 now.

How was the PS4 reveal unexpected?
I mean everybody knew it was coming and will get announced BEFORE E3 kicks off.

Most of the users predicted a March / April reveal with 2-3 months to go before E3 is live. Now it happened in mid February. Yeah it was a month early, but not totally unexpected. And people are overestimating the impact of this announcement.

In a couple of months nobody will even know when which console was announced.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

They advertised the ps4 reveal... How is that unexpected? Every fan, troll, douche and his pet monkey-octopus knew. The "MS was shocked" has no merit because we were not even shocked.

I'm not expecting anything astounding from the Xbox reveal -- but not saying anything, not responding at all to your competition -- that's not strategic on any level. It just shouldn't be happening.

I'm not saying that giving up 2 months will do anything to negatively impact future sales, but it's not really benefiting with the gaming bloggers. Video game bloggers don't really have anything to talk about unless they're being informed by the corporations to "spread the message." So it doesn't help to sit around while weirdos online write blogs about you "racing against time." Not factual, overblown, but microsoft is allowing it to happen lol.

We will see by the end of this year what strategy the best was. Every talk about it before is useless.

the fuck is that?

Microsoft can probably give the full reveal at E3 and it'll be fine. Gamers know it's coming, so nobody's forgotten about it in the wake of the PS4 announcement

"...to next month as opposed to waiting to E3 as originally planned."

And how, pray tell, did they know that's when MS was planning to reveal the next Xbox?
