Both Halo 4 and Gears of War: Judgment are rolling out free DLC releases today. Halo 4 fans can now download Forge Island, while Gears of War: Judgment fans get a Maxim-sponsored pack that combines the new Execution multiplayer mode with a new map called Haven.
Forge Island gives Halo 4 players access to three large, flat areas called the Great Anvils that can be modified into multiplayer maps for the community to enjoy. The download also includes new building assets for use in crafting maps. Forge Island can be downloaded from the Halo 4 in-game store, and requires 150 MB of free space.
The Maxim-sponsored Gears of War: Judgment DLC will be free for a limited time only, although Epic did not provide details regarding when the free availability would end. Players can download the DLC from the game's title menu or the Xbox 360 dashboard. As part of the free DLC, new playlists involving Execution mode and the Haven map will be available for Gearheads. Participating players using the playlists get a 200% XP boost for a limited time (a 300% XP boost for VIP pass holders in the VIP playlist).
The Execution multiplayer mode returns from earlier games in the Gears of War series, where it was one of the most popular modes. In Execution mode, the goal is to kill all members of the enemy team before time runs out. Unless players are struck by a one-hit kill weapon (like the Booshka), they enter a "Down But Not Out" state for a certain length of time. Unless an enemy runs up to the player and performs an Execution during that period, the player will revive.
