yep, this post nailed it.

I don't like the genre very much, but I can say safely say the new Tomb Raider is the one I like the most by a good margin.
I think it's better than UC in every gameplay aspect I can think of: controls are thighter (expecially covering is more precise), level design is less linear compared to UC and more varied, the AI is better, stealth elements are better implemented, puzzles are better and more numerous, there is also some exploration here and there.
In temrms of presentation they are both great, in terms of story I liked TR a bit more, even thougt "drama" moments are quite annoying and worthless in both cases.
btw. I have played UC, UC2 but not UC3.

To it's credit, what I've played of UC3, about 8 hours in, it's not quite as linear as the first two.

Ah well good to hear. I've only played the first 30min of it. Anyaway I'm planning to buy it sooner or later, when I find a good bargain.

Vanquish > Gears

That's a discussion for a different thread.

Vanquish had amazing multiplayer though.

Okay, run with that. I didn't much care for Uncharted even though I played all the PS3 games. Yet I think Tomb Raider is fucking amazing!

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or if you're agreeing with me. If it's sarcasm, then you should see what you wrote here:

"Good point... I don't really have many fond memories of the Uncharted series.

I enjoyed them enough to play though them. That's worth something."

You admitted that you don't think Uncharted is that great. You only find it bearable. Now, let's go back to the point of this thread: You want to tell us how amazing Tomb Raider is. What's one way to do this? You can do this by comparing it to other great/amazing and by showing that Tomb Raider is on par or superior with them. What's one way not to do this? Comparing it with mediocre/bearable games. Comparing Tomb Raider with a mediocre game does not show how great Tomb Raider is.

Proving that game X is better than average does not show how great game X is. What's so hard to understand?

But Uncharted is not average. Even though I didn't exactly enjoy it, I can see its above average and appealed to me enough to play through the trilogy.

I'm not really trying to prove Tomb Raider is better than Uncharted, that's subjective. I can't prove TR's action packed and fast gameplay is more enjoyable than the boring, slow paced, stop everything dialogue heavy Uncharted series. I can't prove great controls and fun gunplay in TR is more enjoyable than the broken controls, horrible gunplay, and endless waves of bullet sponge enemies of Uncharted.

All I'm saying is... I enjoyed TR more than the Uncharted series. Simple as that. Don't read too much into it.

We are talking about your opinion.

You should have stopped there. Its amazing how worked up some of you get over an opinion.

This thread was a voice for the people that agree with me! Also, we got to hear some constructive criticism from Uncharted fans. I'd call this thread a success!

No. Just no. Uncharted 2 is one of the best games in this generation. Tomb Raider is a great action-adventure, as good as the Arkham, Assassin's Creed games, but nothing groundbreaking. Uncharted 2 was like a big WOW from the beginning to the end. The pacing, the set-pieces, the epic story, the humour, the gameplay, the music (ohh that music) everything was A+.

In my opinion:
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune 8/10 - Great game, really great ending, cool, a bit horrorish story by the end. Very good gameplay, but the stealth and melee parts were meh.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves 10/10 - Everything improved! One has to be a nitpicking bastard to find mistakes in that game, and I get it, the Istanbul museum mission was a bit too long and the Guardians were tough as hell. But it's the most epic story ever made, with the best ending scene of all time. I couldn't stop watching that scene alone, so beautiful.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception 9/10 - Great beginning, the first few chapters are epic as ever, but from the ship mission it's all about set-pieces and the same formula as UC2. I mean, Drake goes in the snow, Drake goes in the desert. Drake finds a tibetian guy, who helps him. Drake finds an arabian guy, who helps him. Drake is fighting with a caravan on the road. Drake is fighting with a caravan on the road. Drake finds Shambala. Drake finds Ubar. Whole city collapse. I mean I would have preffered a bit more variety. Besides that, the ship mission was just out of place. It's like, all the ingredients were there, but this one have not been so great. But that's mostly the story.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss 7/10 - It's smaller, no Elena, no Sully until the last third, and Marisa and Dante are stereotypes. The City (I don't remember its name) doesn't look great, the ending is almost the same as Drake's Fortune, without the zombies, including the last scene. And the whole thing takes place in the same jungle, in the same place. Just like UC1. More creativity please.

I would instantly buy an Uncharted for the PS4 and for the Vita, but please, be original, and think about the story a bit before make some levels. If Drake hasn't been on the Moon yet, it doesn't mean that he necessarily has to.

I have to say it is very nice to see the turnaround on this site post launch of Tomb Raider. It seemed like everyone was bashing it before release, and I felt like I was one of the very few people actually looking forward to it. Now that I've played it, I can say that it is a fantastic game. I've only played the first Uncharted, but I vastly prefer the new TR to Drake's Fortune.

I felt Uncharted was more ground breaking as a cinematic experience. The gameplay was just average and had a lot of similarities to Tomb Raider and 3rd person shooters that came before it.

Assassin's Creed was arguably more ground breaking than Uncharted. But we're delving into something subjective.

Agreed, it seems a lot of people who played TR do feel it's at par or at least a high quality action-adventure game.

I thought the notion of comparing a game to Uncharted might create a shit storm. But that didn't quite happen.

Why should I have stopped there? The fact that it's your opinion helps support my point. No one's getting worked up.

Before I leave this thread, I'll leave this comment: Saying you enjoyed TR more than a game you didn't enjoy very much (Uncharted) doesn't do a good job at showing how good Tomb Raider is. That's it. If you cannot understand that then so be it.

Fair enough. But I'd do it again!

Wasn't it nice hearing peoples thoughts on this matter? That's all that matters in the end! I created a little discussion in a place of discussion.
