No guys... the EU 20/60GB and US 80GB have no hardware... only software emulation... Sony only disabled that in later models but the software emulation is on firmware yet... only disable for PS2 disc use.

The PS2 classics run in this software emulation... always did... it is old.

Even in the hack community the guys enable the software emulation for PS2 before Firmware 3.55... this already happened in hacker community since 2011 (or before after the first hack happened).

This is really old news.

Seriously ? I have been following this matter for a long time now. Its exactly like he said.

First of all EU 60gb models are not software only. Look it up everywhere. It still had the PS2 GPU inside and emulated just the PS 2 CPU. Do you understand that ? Can you google that for yourself or do I have to google it for you ? Is this hard to understand or what seems to be the problem ?

PS2 Classic Software emulation was assumed and rumored but it wasn't a fact. Do you know the difference between assumption or fact ? Let me explain:

I assume that I can buy Pineapples in my local store but I don't know that for a fact until I go there and look it up.

Nobody is shitting on Sony its just that every PS3 Console is already able to emulate 9 out of 10 PS2 games and that is surprising.

Sorry but I'm not wrong.

Method (on Firmware 3.55, without! Cobra-USB Dongle or Downgrade) for all consoles (fat & slim).

This is from April, 2012... all software emulation on any PS3 hacked (even Slim)... any PS3 hackable are the only before late 2011 (before the firmware 3.6x I guess)... the firmware 3.55 already have the PS3 software emulation and it was released in late 2010.

The PS2 software emulation in PS3 is really old news.

PS. I don't know which firmware version Sony put the full software emulation but it is before the 3.55 (2010) for sure .

Here I found... the PS2 BC software emulation in firmware 2.60 (January 2009).

http://www.ps3devwiki.com/index.php?title=Emulation#Getting_Playstation_2_Software_Emulator_working

Note: Backups wont work. You're getting the compatibility of the 2.60 software emulator with all of its bugs.

Old = Old.

PS. This is like the other guy discussing with me the "new" hack was really new when the "new" hack is the same posted months ago... same method, same results, same problems (not work with consoles manufacture with new keys after late 2011).

Wrong again.

That's the PS2 soft emu, that was abandoned and never used not even by Sony - PS2 classics use PS2 net emu. No games run properly on soft emu except possible some very old 2D ones that could run on a SNES.

BC consoles use NEITHER net emu or soft emu selfs.

It is the same software emu... the PS2 classics just added some files (and fix for the games released) to run direct from HDD (digital only).

Your reading comprehension sucks or mine does.

They are not talking about the PS2 Emulator from Sony which is implemented in the FW but a PS2 Emulator programmed by a Hacker PS2 Evo 1.0 or whatever.

PS:You don't know what firmware version Sony put the Emulator on because they never said there was a fully working PS2 Emulator.

My other link shows the firmware 2.60 already had the PS2 software emulation... the hack only added/enabled the menus for PS2 emulation... there is no PS2 emulation software created by hackers for Cell... only Sony did that.

ethomaz I give up discussing this with you.

You're either being a stubborn troll or just determined not to grasp what this is all about.

You clearly know very little on the matter if you thought that BC PS3s used software emulation entirely to play PS2 games.

PS2 Classics weren't even released until Fw 3.70. 3.55 consoles can't play PS2 classics for crying out loud.

That emulator you linked to is nothing but some legacy test Sony made and abandoned more than 3 years ago. It was NEVER used for anything at all, hackers found this emulator but it's basically non functional and has no relevance to either...

PS2 Classics

PS2 Retail games on backward compatible consoles.

I beg you to not post again misinforming people that this is old news.

I own a 80GB PS3 Phat, it has never had any PS2 backward compatibility. The box to console even states that it does not play PS2 games.

EU 80GB PS3s have no PS2 BC (no PS2 hardware inside)

US 80GB PS3s do have PS2 BC (Have both PS2 GPU and CPU inside)

ethomaz is clearly on a mission though, I don't think I have the will power to correct him again :)
