I think we can all agree that casual gamers are the worst. Gone are the days when only we hardcore, those most dedicated to gaming, were the desired market for all developers and publishers, when only the passionate needed apply and we all knew who to look up to. Nowadays, it's all about selling shit games to folks with extremely low standards and shit taste in games.
So I'm here to take a stand. No longer should we, the hardcore gamer, sit silent while our beloved industry crumbles beneath us, all because it puts the casual gamer ahead of the real gamer. We can, and must, assert ourselves. And we should begin by knowing who we are, and more importantly, who THEY are.
So with that in mind, let me give you the definitive, uncontestable, ineffable definition of the hardcore gamer. Quite simply, the hardcore gamer is someone who values videogames so much, who dedicates his life to our beloved industry to such a degree, that he is willing to make great sacrifices in the name of gaming.
In other words, the Wii-only gamer is the true hardcore gamer. He alone is so determined to play videogames that he'll take whatever trash publishers are willing to piss on him and declare that it is not mere rain, but manna from the heavens. This great soul cares so much for videogames that he suffers through Carnival Games while those casual peasants are distracted by the glitz and glamour of this year's second edition of Assassin's Creed XXVIII. The Wii-only owner loves gaming so much that he paid for The Conduit while those casual idiots were deluding themselves into thinking that the latest Call of Duty spinoff was anything more than a shitty Michael Bay movie. He scorns the miniscule additions EA farted into its annual HD sports games; true love is pain, and playing those sports titles on the Wii was a particularly virulent strain of love indeed.
Gentlemen, let us salute the unsung heroes. Let us salute the hardest of the hardcore. Let us salute, the Wii-only owner.
