Xenostar said: More than likely the price is correct and was set by the publisher not Nintendo. Its the norm for digital games to cost more than retail games. Yes its stupid and no it shouldn't be like that, but check PSN, check XBLA check Steam, on NEW releases digital costs more than retail. |
With PSN, the price is the MSRP for retail, 59.99$ for day one releases. Sometimes you can find a retailer with a special promotion to make that lower but often not. With Steam, it usually depends on how the publisher prices PC games. Bioshock: Infinite, for example, is 59.99$.
While I wish the digital shops for the Big Three would lower their prices on gradual scale more like the major retailers, I can understand why they don't. No overhead and no competition keeps it from being an issue for them or the publishers, so there is no real pressure to mark down. In retail this occurs naturally, as you want to boost slow moving stock for the sake of turnover, but with digital, you would literally have to assign someone to keep watch and make changes. They probably just lower their prices when the publisher does. I don't know about the rest, but at least PSN has a lot of sales, though that doesn't really make up for it. I'd like for all the digital shops to be more aggressive, as if they had the same kind of competition the PC market does.
