I hope this game is a success for Square-enix. I like how ambitious they are being with this game.

| Jumpin said: If I were Enix, I might be getting rid of their Square branch right about now. This is going to severely damage the company financially as the Spirits Within did. This is assuming this "rumor" is true and Square went crazy and canceled the original game and instead decided to make a new game with an insane budget, and in relation to the most despised Final Fantasy series ever created. |
the game would only need to sell aroud 5m to break even, and sony would most likely be speding alot on this too.
don't see how this could fail

Actually, with Bayonetta 2 and Versus I would pick a Wee U down the line... maybe... used... the game used as well. lol
Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Haha Wii U's are cool. I'll probably get one eventually. I just meant that seeing an FF7 remake on anything but a Sony system would be...weird.

I think it's a mistake to compare it to XIII-2 just because that is the most recently released Final Fantasy. XIII-2's sales were depressed because of the mixed (leaning negative) reception to XIII. A better example might be FFX, which came out shortly after the PS2's first year and continued to be a strong seller throughout the system's life. If it can just match XIII's hype, Versus would surpass XIII-2's lifetime sales almost immediately upon release. As far as the rumor, I'm really not sure about Zeal's credibility. |
How so? Versus is a "spin off" of FFXIII as was FFXIII-2. The only comparson that isn't fair are the console sales as I stated above. Hype for Versus has died. No forum threads about it anymore, no new news apart from this rumor, few Avatars with Versus, (enditall has one.... I think that's his name). If it is revealed at e3 hype will return but after the FFXIII burn many people felt, will it be enough? You can't compare FFX to anything at this stage. PS2 was a beast. It's hard to compare a console that has sold 0 to one that has sold over 120 million. (I know it might come across as dowplaying, it really isn't. Read my first post, I like Square to much to see them lose millions over this game)

Yeah but at the same time XIII wasn't well recieved so a sequel to a ill recieved game in a franchise that typically doesn't have sequels (besides X-2) was bound to sell a bit less than most. Even X-2 which was a sequel to a FF game that most fans DID like sold just a bit more than half of what X sold.
If Versus turns out to be an actual good game, I think people would give it a chance.
I hope you're right but again as I said above, you can't compare game sales on a console with 0 sales to one with over 120 million. Versus is a spin off, it it wasn't it would be FFXV.

It was released on PC as well though.

This sounds like something I could make up.
Changing the name from FFv13 to FF15 is something I said should happen for well over a year.
Shifting development to the PS4 makes sense because its only coming out next year at the earliest, remaining on the PS3 could kill sales, while moving to the PS4 could help make it an evergreen title (at least for the first couple of years).
The development budget will always be hard to judge, so could well happen.
All in all, this is going to happen :P

Eh a year later. It's still synonymous with Playstation though.

120 millions is a lot yes, but this could be the game Sony could use to appeal to the Japanese market. Apart from Deep Down which isn't a proven franchise, what was there to appeal to the Japanese market that Sony showed in its unveiling this past month? If Sony helps this game out and also does marketing for the game it could prove beneficial for both Square and Sony. MGS4 showed that exclusives can sell. But then, this is only a rumor and even I have the feeling it won't be exclusive. |
The Japanese console maket is pretty dead at the moment, pushing a $120m game for that market is pretty insane. MGS4's 5.74m would probably not be very profitable for a $120m game so if that is the golden example that you are going to hold up it isn't really a good one in this case. Since the game spent most of it's development as a PS3 game I think they should at least have it as a cross generation release.

God damn it when will this just come out, been excited for it for years now.
