Forums - Gaming - Is FF Versus XIII still for PS3 or now for PS4?

I stopped believing FF Vs XIII was exclusive after all the delays. It's go on so long it needs to go multiplatform to make up the losses. If it gets renamed FF XV and is marketed as the next big FF than I expect it to be nothing else but multiplatform and even more multiplatform than FF XIII.

And you really still believe going Multiplat would help a Japanese Game? That worked so well in this Gen yeeeeeah ;)
It would probably sell a lot less cause

a) The Real Fanbase on the Sony side is pissed of
b) there aren't enough people on other consoles interested in such games to make up the loss of people from the Sony side.

And going Multiplat did hurt SquareEnix a lot and so did it with other Japanese Companies.
Just look at Tales of(Xillia) - Xillia got Franchise PreOrder Records and destroyed FF13-2 IN JAPAN if you compare the first few weaks. Why?Cause it was a PS3 Exclusive - The only thing that mattered.
Versus13 would lose a lot if it would be a Multiplat for this Gen cause other consoles can't handle a PS3 Exclusive and this is a fact especially if someone like Nomura is behind it.
Don't know why people can't allow others to have a fun with a good Final Fantasy or something like that. Its your own fault/choice for not having a PS3.No need to destroy the fun of the other people.
Early NextGen Multiplat would be something different of course but i don't think they would do that even if a PS3 Exclusive would probably look good enough to work as a stealth NextGen Game.

It is not that far-fetched to think Versus/XV will go multiplatform. There is a chance. XIII managed to go multiplatform even though it was initially announced as an exclusive. Being Japanese doesn't have to do with it. But those were different times and PS3 is a much more viable platform now for Final Fantasy compared to Xbox.

I think it'll remain on PS3. If it releases in 2014 the PS4 userbase will be still be too low. The PS3 userbase has been expecting it for years and is too big to ignore. I'd be surprised if it was PS4 exclusive. I don't think it's impossible, but I'd be surprised.

SE just announced Drakengard 3 exclusively for PS3 and KH 2.5 Remix will be releasing next year for the PS3 as well (though in Japan I could see a 2013 release. They'd have to be REALLY effiecient an have already been working on it though.)

I don't expect it go multiplat. Not even cross gen for PS4. Doesn't seem like something Nomura would do, especially since his games are traditionally exclusive.

But they still have to release FFXIV and Lightning Returns on the PS3 before they would release Versus/FFXV. That pushes things back a lot. Like Fall 2014 for Versus in Japan and early 2015 in the rest of the world :/

That's why I think Versus has been pushed back on next-gen hardware.

XIV and LR are this year. Not sure where you're getting Fall 2014 for Versus from.

Well it's a guess but if Lightning Returns is set for fall 2013 then when would Versus come out? First half of 2014 sounds too early to me. So I'm guessing fall 2014. And by then I'm thinking for a project as big as Versus they probably switched to next-gen. Surely that's what the dude (producer of Versus) from the PS4 conference was talking about. And it probably got rebranded FFXV, though that's even further of a guess.

FFX came out a year after the PS2 was out so it's not impossible to expect Versus/FFXV in late 2014 on the PS4.

"a) The Real Fanbase on the Sony side is pissed of"

Anyone pissed off that a series with no contractual association to Sony goes multiplatform should really reassess their priorities.

"b) there aren't enough people on other consoles interested in such games to make up the loss of people from the Sony side."

See my anwser to "a)"

What??

Square Enix is not a 1st party Sony developer. Final Fantasy didn't even get it's start on Playstation. The frnachise has been on so many different platforms I'm not going to waste my time listing them all. If anything disallowed fun it would be limiting Final Fantasy to one platform for no reasons. The Engine is multiplatform and the tools are multiplatform so the game should be multiplatform. If you can't enjoy a multiplatform game because filthy none Sony gamers can play it without a Playstation I don't know what to tell you.

Early NextGen Multiplat would be something different of course but i don't think they would do that even if a PS3 Exclusive would probably look good enough to work as a stealth NextGen Game.

3rd Party games have NO obligation to be exclusive. Only when a console maker steps in and pays for it should they be exclusive. Unless Sony pays for a Final Fantasy the games should continue to be ported to be played by as many people as possible.

This title probably isn't exclusive anymore, and it will probably release on the next batch of consoles. Square just doesn't have a lot of brand loyalty these days. If you have a platform Square is usually happy to put games out for it. In the case of Final Fantasy it is still fairly popular in North America. So it makes sense to have it available for the most popular console brand in that region. Like it or not that means Xbox.

It might be a different case if it was a property that does well, but only exclusively in Japan. In which case a Xbox version of a game would be money poorly spent, because the install base for the Xbox in that region would hardly justify the development costs. Square tends to its own ass first, and any preferences it might have second. I really don't understand why people forget the comments Square made about Sony early in the last generation. I think they made it pretty clear that they aren't blindly loyal.

I mean this is a company making games for smart phones. When Sony's own portable gaming device desperately needs all the games it can get. For the Sony fans who want Square to play the exclusivity game when it comes to this franchise. You really need to think this over for a minute, because if exclusivity is on the table. Square in its insatiable quest for cash. Might just auction it off to the highest bidder, and given how Microsoft has done in Japan. T

hey might be open to spending just a plain ungodly sum to get it. After all this is the company that floated Take 2 a fifty million dollar loan to get exclusive content packs for Grand Theft Auto 4, and those weren't anywhere near as valuable as a exclusive Final Fantasy game would be for them. If Square offered it you can bet that Microsoft would be all over that shit. It wouldn't even be the first time they went on a buying binge in Japan, or have we forgotten about the half dozen exclusives in this genre Microsoft funded early last generation.

you do know final fantasy sells alot better on the PS3 in north america?

Latest rumors say PS4 exclusive, but I don't know for sure, of course.

Nomura just said it will be a SteamBox timed exclusive, then it will be ported to Android and GameCube.

Yep. FF XIII sold 2m on 360 at $60 a pop.

That's $120m. Not a bad profit.

The engine is multiplatform and so are the tools. If they hadn't ported it to 360 they would have missed out on $120m.
