I am afraid it isn't clear yet if that's the case. Hopefully Sony is fighting for a FF for the PS4 Japan launch like I also said in here (I think, or the other Versus thread in the forum). As far as I know Sony is the one getting Destiny exclusive content. I bet Micro is working to keep Gears, it will be a matter of whether Epic is willing to get contracted once again or take the risk of tapping the PS market. I didn't hear anything about COD but judging by this gen, right?

A FF for PS4 launch is practically impossible.
|
hmm, you may be right. Unless Versus XIII has been long into development for the PS4 and E3 will be the full unveiling. Even then it could be kind of unlikely. Possibly to early 2014, at best.
|
Yeah, its been in development for almost the whole gen. Any longer and they will have to push out the development into a twelve year process, im sure. Square will deliver it at E3 I am sure.
|
The question would be, if it really passed to PS4 development, at what point it did? Enough to have it pretty much ready by now? Hopefully. I have the feeling it was (if it really did) once they shut down all Vs XIII info and refused to show anything about it.
It makes the most sense to me that E3 will have the unveiling, but we are talking about Square in here. Gotta keep them expectations down for the sake of sanity and not looking like fools.

We could keep our expectations down, but after the Playstation meeting we know a huge unveiling is going to happen courtesy of SE and I know Microsoft might try to throw it off course. They might money hat their way to get the game to go multiplat, but I don't think it will happen at this point. SE knows they have at least 5-7 million coming to them on the PS3 alone, let the alone the fact that Versus will be a system seller. This is SE Japans chance to reprent for all of the bullshit. After they reveal it and give a release date perhaps they'll let the Kingdom Hearts team go. FF15 is pretty much what the majority of us are anticipating that it will be called.

You are actually more confident than I am. lol I don't trust Square to this point, but I have to admit I always have hope. I don't believe that Square presence there in the PS4 unveiling necessarily means an exclusive. I would hope so. I am also interested to know if Microsoft is really that interested in FF at al in this moment. Final Fantasy XIII sold well in Xbox but I don't feel it did much for them in the US where the losing of exclusivity didn't serve much beyond fanboy ammunition.
But of course, unless Micro just completely gave up on Japan (which I doubt), or will try to get the Japanese market with whatever they come up with (Kinect 2), they sure will try to have something big for Japan and outside MH, Mario (?) and Pokemon which aren't an option, Final Fantasy still seems to be the target. So yeah, I guess we could expect Micro to make effort to get a hold off Final Fantasy as well this gen.
I recall talks from Square about releasing a game that could rival FFVII and that after that they would feel like they could release a remake for FFVII, so I guess they do feel like they need to step up their game. The bad reviews for FFXIII and XIV are there as well. Maybe they will focus in a single platform and take the best out of it. But I wouldn't discard a port if the Xbox port is not that hard to get out. Maybe a timed exclusive for PS4, especially if all the rumors are wrong and Xbox releases some months later than the PS4. A Final Fantasy launch in the PS4 could pretty much go without much competition for Square in the Japanese market. Final Fantasy is indeed a system seller.

Last I checked SE kept brushing off FFVII talks to focus on the present every time the option was given to them by interiviewers. Eventually they came out of the closet and said they might as well scrap the FF series if they cannot live up to the popularity it had (before Sakaguchi san left). Square is surviving purely off of Eidos titles and western developers. SE Japan has dropped the ball completely. I don't even know what to say about their predicament, but they have to fix this and soon.
As for MS, FF only matters for them in the west. Japan has already shut them out and favored Sony as the sole console to buy FF on so we know the sales will be high whether Versus is exclusive or not. If you remember well, we can presume that half of Microsofts installed base is half of Sony's installed base from last gen. Combine both and you essentially have the PS2's sales, so they'll definitely buy PS3's to get their hands on it. Theres a good chance Versus could sell 7-8 M solely off of hype built up over seven years of this gen (for PS3 not Xbox...the 360 is eight years old now).

I agree. I believe the key for Square redemption is to focus and perhaps focusing their efforts in the PS4 could be prove benefitial.
I don't know. I feel that at this point MS may not be interested in FF if it is only for the west. Back when they fought for XIII's exclusivity they were trying to put up the image that they were getting what you had from Sony to position themselves well during the beginning of the generation and to saw Sony's tree. They wanted to give the impression to gamers that it was alright to go to Xbox cuz you would get there what you get from PS. Xbox has already positioned themselves in the market and people know what they stand for by now. Back then we were coming from a generation where JRPGs were strong but now they don't have that spotlight anymore. That is why I say that their effort, if it's directed towards FF, would be to change what happened with FFXIII in Japan and get something from FF. But at the same time the fact that Square was there at the PS4 unveiling at least guarantees a multi, and I doubt a multi FF would do much for Xbox in Japan.
At this point I bet Micro will consider where to invest money and where not to invest money and I feel FF may not be one of those places to invest.
7 to 8 mil? That's some ambitious expectancy. XD Maybe we got Square wrong and they have been doing marketing all this time with Versus by creating a generation of hype.
