Forums - Gaming - First in-engine footage of Ubisoft's Call of Juarez: Gunslinger

Ubisoft has released the first in-engine footage from Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, its upcoming downloadable shooter that returns to the series' Western origins.

Due out on PC, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, Gunslinger lets you step into the spurred boots of grizzled bounty hunter Silas Greaves.

There's no actual gameplay in the footage (that's coming in another trailer next week, apparently), but the game's world at least looks promising, especially considering the title's download-only origins.

Gunslinger has the job of redeeming the series following disappointing modern-day entry Call of Juarez: The Cartel, back in 2011.

"The whole thing's noisy and messy and pleasantly rough around the edges," Chris Donlan wrote in Eurogamer's Call of Juarez: Gunslinger preview last year. "This should be a breezy knockabout blaster."

UPDATE: A just-released new gameplay trailer for Call of Juarez: Gunslinger has shown off a number of the game's locales and characters.

Real-life historical figures such as Billy the Kid and Jesse James feature amidst a lot of blood-spattered shooting. There's also a mine train section and plenty of sunset-soaked vistas.

It's an impressive effort for a downloadable title, and looks a huge improvement on 2011's modern-day update Call of Juarez: The Cartel.

I think games in a Western setting need good story writing á la Red Dead Redemption, or else just doing a bunch of missions and shooting random gangsters will quickly feel boring.

Hopefully these guys realize this.

Well, CoJ games usually have pretty decent stories (for the genre). For me, first CoJ was really fun game to play...2nd one, not so much, it was too much restricted in gameplay by inclusion of constantly present companion (brother), which led to a lot of problems in pacing (either slowing you down, or pushing you to move to fast)...3rd one, I haven't even tried.

Considering they advertize this as back to roots, I'm hoping they will go back to 1st one and make enjoyable experience.

Really think the name Call of Juarez is going to play against them. The immediate impression It gave me was the name of a Call of Duty parody, but perhaps that's just me :/ *games goes on to sell several million copies*

Well, first game in series is from 2006 - before CoD became what it is today (and was known mainly to PC gamers). Besides, I don't think anyone will confuse western set FPS for CoD ;)
