They always treated the franchise terribly. I remember back when they were releasing 4 cheaply made Megaman games per year with zero marketing, and then getting mad at US fans when we couldn't AFFORD to buy them all. How do you think Metal Gear Solid sales would be if they were pumping out 4 per year every year, all the while 95% of potential customers didn't even know the games existed, and 4% were confused to the point of not being able to tell the differences between the games in the first place? Hell, even one MGS game per year would greatly cannibalize sales.
Fuck Capcom, the franchise always deserved so much better.
