Forums - Sony - PS4 Pre-Orders Seeing 'Unprecedented Demand' - Retailer

Pre-orders for Sony's PlayStation 4 (PS4) console have seen 'unprecedented demand' at one online retailer which states it saw its web traffic triple on the night of the Sony reveal conference.

Leading online games retailer ShopTo told NowGamer the PS4 console has been the biggest preorder success in the company's history.

Killzone and Watch Dogs are the most pre-ordered titles, with Driveclub also doing well, according to the retailer.

ShopTo spokesman James Rowson said: “It’s unprecedented demand.

"It’s been the most successful console pre-order to date in our seven year history.

“It resonates with our customer base because we’re very much a hardcore gamers’ destination, so the launch of a new PlayStation or Xbox console was always going to be pretty strong for us.

“But it has been unprecedented in terms of numbers.

“On the actual reveal night our site traffic even at one in the morning was treble its usual traffic.

“We were bold and brave to put a preorder message on there, we were kind of on our own at that point.

“It also increased new registrations to our website as well as in people who’d not previously shopped with us who created an account just to place a preorder, so overall very successful and something we’ve been very pleased with.

“It’s been backed up by the various software titles, they’re doing well.

“Killzone and Watch Dogs are the two favourites but DriveClub’s been doing pretty well as well."

He also added that the price has not yet been confirmed and that, despite the £399.95 price tag on the site, 'nothing has been confirmed from anyone' yet on the final price.

NowGamer has contacted several retailers and will update this story as more information comes in, so keep checking back for more.

Tell that to some Microsoft fan on here who just won't stop making threads every hour about how awesome Microsoft is and how bad Sony is. (Not jaywood)

Sony may be deliberately making pre-orders themselves to make it seem that there is a huge demand for PS4. Consider it some sort of new type of advertisement.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I´ve seen him too. But really, this is getting ridiculous. The amount of hype people are generating towards this machine, and the exagerations in every possible way ("Unprecedented Demand"), is only going to play against Sony and Sony fans when the PS4 is released and the EXTREME sales you are expecting won´t be achieved.

Teh PS4 knows you so well, that it pre-orders itself for you, so you don't have to. You can thank it later.

it wasn't confirmed for launch so that may be a factor.  Then again neither was Driveclub but I guess people want a racing game to compliment their shooter/adventure game.  I'll be getting Infamous for xmas if it's out by then and get it myself if not.  KZ will be my only launch game while Watch Dogs and Infamous will be on the xmas list along with a second controller and GTA5 (PS3 if not ported to PS4).

If the retailer reports "unprecedented demand", how is it an exaggeration on the part of Sony fans (since you ignored the first post, a response here would be nice)?

I think the retailer must be exagerating things to hype the machine. The Industry is collapsing and he must keep his job in order to stay alive. With the Wii U they did the same, but saddly the machine is not selling well. Now it´s time to try with the PS4.

Some fans are jumping the gun by thinking PS4 will definitely have "extreme sells". But so are you by assuring it won't have "extreme sales" as well. Nothing is written yet, for either of those outcomes.
