Forums - Microsoft - Why Xbox 360 won't lose support anytime soon

Buy one for $99 and you have to subscribe to Gold for two years.  10 year plan confirmed.

So how much is that after the 2 year Gold subscription?

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

$99 for console.
$360 for Live.

SERIOUSLY!!! Wow....that doesn't really seem like much of a deal then especially seeing as it onl has a 4g hard drive. Still it is is good they are looking to keep the console  going and may be a good deal for some people to look into.

$15 x 24 = $360 in live costs ($180 a year) for a total of $460.

live normally is $60 a year so you pay a $240 premium in live fees compared to an informed consumer

so the console costs $340 (assuming you wanted a live subscription)

a new 4Gb with kinect is 300.

so net math... this console "deal" is $40 over msrp.

Sneaky bastards... Pretty damn high charges for Live. What happens if you cancel/can't pay for Live later on? Are they going to repo the console? Repo Wars: 360 edition

I just realized that I've spent about $300 on Xbox Live...

$600 doesn't sound so bad after all.

Yes they will continue the current generation of Xbox for some time, But you're making a BIG assumption that there will be a next gen Xbox. With sales dropping 28% from last year I can't imagine any sane company wanting to continue. Their stockholders expect them to make money, which the Xbox is not doing for them. And with the way Microsoft is getting its butt kicking in the mobile space it would make more sense for them to drop the Xbox altogether and try to return to a growth company.

Took you this long to realise that? I never payed a single month of gold on my Xbox.

You can still buy Wii's but that console only really lives on through the 2nd hand market. Microsoft will probably have a new console out this year so its highly doubtful they will continue to support the 360 with AAA blockbusters. Fact is if you take on this subscription you will find yourself in ownership of a console that will rely heavily on the 2nd games market for the majority of your contract. Same with PS3 after this year.

Its a good bargain though to spread the cost instead of a hefty downpayment.
