Forums - Gaming - PS3 VS XBOX360 Game Library Average Metacritic Scores thourgh the years...

Very small difference with review scores between the PS3 and XBox 360 does not show which game console is more popular, what game franchises/genres sell better on the two console systems. Review scores are subjective, based on the opinion of the reviewer and they are ineffective in deciding the popularity and success of the games. Game sales objectively determine the popularity and success of games, the consumers decide the popularity and success of games and console systems. Game sales numbers mean a lot more than review scores. The average game sales for top selling multi-platform and exclusive games over the years show a lot more than average review scores.

If you want to go that route, I believe more multiplat games sell better on the PS3 or maybe not. Someone with sales data could look it up. I find the new data tools here to be lame.

Edit: I forgot to mention, if its popularity you're looking for then just check the charts where in the PS3 has been outselling the XBOX360 and the Wii. The fact is, the PS3 is selling more than the other two, making it "more popular".

ils, thanks for tabulating this data. But what conclusions are we meant to draw from this? The scores from each platform seem to be about 2 points apart, on average. Is there any meaning in those numbers?

Actually, nothing. All I can conclude from the numbers presented is that both the PS3 and the XBOX360's game library are more or less equal in terms of quality.

So PS3 > 360 as some would deduce from this. Two scores above like a boss.
Going further, Sony released retail PS3 games with an average of 79 in the past year, almost 10 points higher than PS3's overall average and yet it's somehow "mediocre". That's also 2 points higher than Nintendo's average...ever, when looking at Nintendo as a company on metacritic.

You should check out the OP again, I updated some more "tables" which you may find interesting...

In that case we would need 360 software shipments from MS as we know software here is often massively off.

My guess is that since the XBOX360 is US sentric, VGC can follow its software sales easier as compared to the PS3 where in some portions of its software sales are in regions that aren't tracked at all such as the rest of Asia and such.

Lol, I'm proud PS3 owner, don't need and 360. That been said...who gives a fuck about average scores and shitty games?

The only thing that matters is how many good games a console has.
If console X has 50 games you want (good scores) and 600 games you don't want (bad scores) and console Y has 45 good games and 5 bad games....

Which console has the better average? Which console is more interesting to you?

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

you lost me there, if X has 50 games that I want, and Y has only 45 good games, despite it only having 5 bad games and X has 600 bad games, then its a no brainer. X all the way since it has 5 more good games that I want and the 600 nasty games are always good for a few laughs especially if those games are in the bargain bin.

Right, but console Y would have a much higher average score, which is what this thread is about. I just wanted to point out how pointless this thread is.

Interesting... PS3 have 3,590 titles (excluding download software titles) and only 1,199 was reviewed (or have more than four review in Metacritic).

How does PS3 and 360 games library average Metacritic scores compare to the Wii?

I would also like to know that  and  how many of the rated games for Wii are Nintendo games/second party games   and how that compared to the rest of the Wii library. etc etc etc
