Forums - General - Why do you use Google over Bing (America)

Because I'm used to using google. I don't have any complaints, and so have no desire to use a different search engine. I've tried bing out and it's perfectly fine. But I see no reason to change from google if I don't have any problems with it.

Completely understandable.  I was the same way.  I just like the rewards which is why i switched

I did bingiton, and got google 5 out of 5 times. so surprising...

Seth did it and 4/5 Bing.  What i said is i bet you dont notice a difference.  I know for me most of the time i just randomly pick one or the other because i see little to no difference

seth typed in things like "nintendo" and "wiiu"

I used google fu, like

"war of the lions cloud balthier hidden quest" (or something similar to that)
bing brought me to reviews for the game for the first 3 or 4 links, then an empty forum with a question and no answers.

Google brought me directly to gamefaqs.

Then
"RAM galaxy vs bionic"
Bing DID give me results, but not the kind I wanted.
Google's results had the answers right in their titles.

Then
"comicopia new releases new website"
bing returned yelp reviews and newspaper articles
Google brought me to the exact link I was looking for.

Then I typed in "theprof00 kowen vs vita"
bing returned two results, both from my sig.
Google returned my sig and more posts and the actual thread.

I forget what the last search was.

Any service that has to pay you to use it over the competition is not a service that can stand on its own two feet.

Sorry if this is slightly off topic, but here's one of the many reasons I hate bing with passion.

I live in the Uk and whenever I look up my name with google, I see all the conferences I've given a paper at and some sports events I took part in. When I use bing, the first thing that comes up is the bloody petition I signed for a tv show (not to get cancelled). And the rest are just irrelevant stuff. I hope future employers don't use bing.

I will say bing does have the best video searches, which I do in fact use it for. Everything else is a waste of my time though. Not worth the 12 cents a day they're willing to pay me

The differences between the 2 are almost non-existent. I actually prefer Bing now, though, because it doesn't filter any pirated content like Google sometimes does, and Bing Video is far superior to Google for pr0n!

Google definitely is a bit more pleasing on the eyes, though.

nah they are just trying to gain market share because Google had a massive market before they entered.  They have actually been gaining on them as well.  They even passed Yahoo which has been around for much longer

Yeah, last month they gained 0.1% on Google. Let's celebrate!

Do you understand how many people 0.1% is?

Also if im correct they now have 16% of the market compared to there 0% a few years ago.  They will continue to gain over time.  Slowly but surely.

I chose Bing four out of five times, however I was able to correctly guess which searches were provided by which website, and the searches I used were very generic (names of shows, etc). Naturally, a search displaying videos would have an advantage.

Regardless, I use DuckDuckGo. DDG is fantastic for mathematical/factual searches, for quick information (via instant answer box at the top of the search), and its privacy policy is a refreshing change to most search engines. It has a very minimal interface, much like Google started off with. It allows me to directly search Bing, Google (images, news, regular search, etc), Amazon, YouTube, Wikipedia, Wolfram Alpha... actually, just take a look at this page for all of the sites I can search directly from the address bar. !bangs are probably my favourite part about using DDG, actually. I use them all the time.
