Forums - Gaming - Has the Xbox 360 gone the longest ever without an official price cut? If so why?

360 had a price cut during the holidys, and it did nothing

I'm pretty sure the OP was talking about an official price-cut all over and not just Australia or $50 reduction for select Xbox 360 consoles and bundles for limited time in NA.

the $50 pricecut was all over america, and it went for 2 months

It wasnt a permanent price drop now was it?

Microsoft are jerks. I mean they still charge for online even though its relatively easy to get elsewhere (steam, psn, wii or wiiu). They have proprietary memory. They cover up flaws with a bunch of marketing. They act like timed exclusive dlc is the same as exclusive games. I hate them plain and simple. What were we talking about? Oh yeah they haven't cut price because people are still buying 360s in the us enough and they like the profits.

are you faulting them because they want to make profits?

still a pricecut though :P

I believe because they think they didn't have too! For whatever reason they are looking at some margin sales thingy. I think the would do quite well if they lowered the price.

Interestingly, today they announced their 'Spring Bundle' Xbox 360S 250gb, and Darksiders 2, and Arkan Asylum Digital. Still no price cut. They have even had 320gb hard drive in some of the other packages.

I find it funny how Microsoft is so risky and conservative at the same time.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

While the 360's main SKUs haven't gotten an "official" price cut per say, M$ has been giving consumers alot more bang for their buck for the same $199-$299 price ranges due to Kinect and various bundles, especially during the holidays.

Also, I do believe that the 360 is the only console in history to have at least one retail SKU at the very same price that it launched at ($299) for the duration of its lifespan. Pretty amazing when you think about it.

Is that really impressive? I mean, the 360 was the first console to release with multiple SKU's, wasn't it?

I wonder if it was Sony in the better position would they also be the jerks?

Here, I'll answer for you.

No.

MS recognizes that most of the sales throughout the year are deliberated decisions. These people are buying the system because they want the system, not because there is a good deal at the time. They are much more flexible on the price.

Holiday shoppers are spontaneous and can easily be swayed by a lower price point. By capitalizing on holiday deals and maintaining a high official price MS has managed to get sales from both types of consumers while maintaining a hefty profit.

I don't know how well this approach will work for them in the next generation though as I foresee the PS4 and 720 being much more comparable in costs to manufacture. MS just kind of lucked out this gen because it took so long for Sony to drop to a decent price that MS appeared as the cheap option long after that was not even the case anymore.

perfect post that was actually bought by Sony, who said the same thing before last Christmas, which also proves that the companies pay for the holiday price cuts.

Because like any smart business they saw it's doable and offsets the IEB R&D costs.
