Forums - Sony - Will PS3 top 100 million?

I think it is quite possible.

If PS1 and PS2 can break 100 million, why can't PS3?

PS3 may have a slow start, but it will last longer than Xbox360 and Wii. PS3 probably will directly compete with Nintendo's and Microsoft's "8th gen" consoles. The developers dropped their support for PS1 too fast. But this time, they are not going to abandon PS2 any time soon. PS2 is still selling and competing with Wii, Xbox360, and ironically PS3. In fact, Nintendo's success with the Wii indirectly prolongs the lifespan of PS2 because the developers can port Wii games to PS2. I won't be surprised if PS3 repeat PS2's path.

The bottom line is, I will be extremely happy to see two consoles from the same generation top 100 million. That will be a new record.

PS2 was only in japan for most of first year.

PS3 will not last longer if people don't buy games, Wii will probably last longest due to mad sales and huge userbase

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

- Sonys stubborn ass = serious 10 year plan.
- BR winning = more life.
- PS3 hard to tap power will mean improvements in games for a long time.
- Everything going HD wii is not hd while 360 is barely doin better then original xbox.

100 million is pretty much a sure thing.

10 year plan means nothing without support, support follows userbase not vice versa

Blu-ray players cheaper than PS3

Game imporvements mean nothing if no one is buying, weak game sales

HD adoptions is slow and most don't care

- Tell me what console has FF MGS GTA on it ? yahh. User base means NOTHING if sales are low aka wii 3rd party sales. U will NEVER see a GTA game on the wii.

- PS3 is still the best player, only one that will play 2.0

- weak sales, like on the wii ehh.

- LOL delusional are we, all i see on tv is hd this and hd that. In Best Buy every tv is HD and running a BR player. Cameras PC all hd.  Only ones that dont care about hd are wii fanboys.

With it losing exclusives and with its low user base and high dev cost, I dont see many AAA titles heading its way that are not on the 360.

It will sell 30mil to 40 mil max.

lmao "mad sales and huge user base".

look at 3rd aprty sales kid, a multiplatform 3rd party game on PS3 out sales 3rd party wii exclusives.

 Time for a realty check.

Ummm lets chec kall the data, hmmm yes if we add that there, then carry the 1. Multiply ti by 5, then add another 3. Ok i think i have a very accurate answer. According to my studies, No it will not sell 100 million units

Sorry kid, but people don't care who makes the games as long as they can have fun, there are more third party million sellers on Wii than PS3

-More Wii third party million sellers

-Average consumers care about price, they don't know what blu-ray 2.0 is

-Wii sales are higher than PS3

-Actually look at HD adoption rates, very low, most people with HD TVs don't have HD service

Wii user base 20 million, 5 third party games that sold +1 mill.
PS3 user base 10 million 4 third party games that sold +1 mill.

lol you see that as a win for the wii ?

And they also care about value and functionality.

Yahh casue you say they are low, sure they don't.

 Well, lets see:

Wii sales > PS3 sales. Wii wins there.

Third party games on Wii hitting 1 million + > Third party games on PS3 hitting 1 million. Wii wins there.

Wii attach ratio > PS3 attach ratio. Wii wins there.

So yeah, I see that as a win for the Wii especially when you consider the fact that there aren't that many third party games that deserves to be million sellers right now.

-So what is your point Wii has a stronger first party lineup than PS3, yet many third party games still sell more than on PS3, like Guitar hero

-Not if they don't know what Blu-ray is, most consumers aren't tech savvy, they only know that blu-ray is something new

-More than half of HDTV owners don't have HD service, so yeah its low

I love how everyone compares the 360's 2-year userbase to the PS3's 1-year.
