Dear Lord, there are actually people posting in this thread saying that they expect the PS3 to sell 100m units. And... they're not being sarcastic. Usually, the VGChartz members tend to be pretty sharp, but I've been severely let down here.

No, it won't. Probably will end at around 50,000,000... and I'm being generous here.

And if you believe PS3 will reach 100,000,000, then you think Wii will end at 400,000,000

The PS3 will easily break 100 million. In addition to 35-40% unit growth of console sales in current markets, huge areas of the world economy -- Russia, Brazil, China, India -- are joining the game market.

If it makes a turn around, it could reach 70 million in the next 5 years.

Either way, if the PS3 wants to stay around 10 years or not, it won't sell that long, after Nintendo and Microsoft release their next gen consoles. Sony isn't dumb enough to wait years after Microsoft or Nintendo to release their next gen console.

 sony will release at least with the other guys.  their tech will be behind enough this time where they will be able to meet launch demand (relatively).

 the only reason i can see the ps3 beating 100 million is if the console market explodes (its waiting to happen, although maybe not an explosion.  it is not happening with the wii or ds, im talking about 200-300 million sales) or the casuals get suddenly board with the wii and start getting the ps3.  dont think either will happen though.  ps3 will have extremely respectable sales though.

 Actually in the past the first year of a consoles life has defined the generation. To make a turn around this huge would be a massive change from what has historically happened.
