If we're talking about the actually Pokemon themselves, then I'm going with Gen 4. Pachirisu alone is enough to make it my favorite Gen, but most other pokemon in there also looked cewl, sounded cewl, and were good fighters to top it all off. However if we're talking about the games, then the answer is simply the newest version, as they're all the samething only newer versions have more content n features.

I'm talking about the games.

I think 5th Gen is second best after Pokémon Emerald #1. But I haven't played Black 2 yet.

I do like 4th Gen Pokémon & 3rd & 2nd Gen, for the Pokémon.

The 5th Gen has some good ones, but it seem like they were trying to appeal to the 1st and maybe also 2nd Gen lovers too much.

I really like to have a great adventure when playing Pokémon, but I also care about the kinds of new Pokémon too.

^How is Emerald better than Black n White? Like I said, they're all the same thing, only each new version adds n enhances stuff, hence they are better than previous versions.

Emerald was more meaning and exploration and better storyline and better music and better Pokémon and so fort.

Diamond & Pearl was just like playing the first Pokémon game, but with more land and the addition of berry mixer and/or whatever.

The second gen was a real difference from the 1st & 4th Gen, in the 2nd Gen's favor.

The 3rd Gen took things much further.

The 5th Gen was like a less material 3rd Gen, but I think that's cause of the limit of memory. But I haven't played Black 2 yet.

The 5th Gen just doesn't have that much to it, compare to the 3rd Gen.

I guess you only take into account such things as Pokémon & items and stuff like that, huh?

I've never heard of one getting Pokemon for it's story, exploration, or soundtrack, seeing as they're generally bland and generic, though each game does have it's tracks and some cool scenerys, but even still that's just relative stuff. One can easily say D n P was superior in all those points, like I would. :P
If we look at the cold hard facts, D n P is clearly superior. They have the same Pokemon as Emerald and the games before it plus new ones, more items, better graphics, refined battle system, and most importantly online battleing and trading. Probably some other things I missed as I haven't played the game in forever but ya get the idea.

Gen 2 is the only one I like.

The gameplay in Diamond & Pearl was completely striped down to 1st gen gameplay.

The gameplay in Pokémon main games is at its best on 3rd Gen follow by 5th Gen follow by 2nd Gen follow by 4th Gen follow by 1st Gen.

Pokémon Emerald easily has the best Gameplay, and the best adventure with the best exploration and etc.

The 4th Gen was a do nothing game. And just said catch Pokémon, that is all. There was no meaning nor purpose in the 4th Gen. With the 2nd & 3rd & 5th Gen you have actual meaning & purpose for playing the game. The 1st Gen was a first time experience playing such a game. You can't just keep repeating the what seems like the same thing as the 1st Gen over & over again, at least not without meaning & purpose for why you should play a New Pokémon game if the only thing it has is some new Pokémon and small side games and another do the same thing region. I don't want Pokémon to become like Call of Duty, where people just play new weapons (attacks) & environments (region).
