Microsoft released a series of videos today on the official Xbox YouTube channel demonstrating SmartGlass, the technology that allows smartphones and tablets to interact with games, movies and more on the Xbox 360.

You can check out the video above, which is narrated by SmartGlass project manager Peter Orullian, to see how Signal Studios' Ascend: New Gods will use SmartGlass to send information about your in-game surroundings like maps to a connected device. The video below shows how you can use SmartGlass to interact with a movie, The Dark Knight Rises, with interactive features like controls, production photos, trivia and more.

You can check out the official Xbox YouTube channel to see other SmartGlass tutorial videos covering everything from interacting with Halo 4 to controlling and searching the console. Microsoft unveiled SmartGlass at its E3 2012 keynote, in a segment you can watch right here.

I'm sorry, I cringe. Does anyone like this? Can it do more going forward?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I like smart glass. Great way to use my 360 for media watching. I hope it gets better integration with games in the nextbox. I also like the fact that they have it on iOS, Android, and Windows 8.

Aside from being a dashboard controller, I don't see how a touch screen alone is good. Reason why it wont' really match the potential of the gamepad. But from my gamepad experience, using it as a dashboard controller/browser controller/etc it has awesome potential. Just not for games... that I can see yet.

nextbox-U?

edit: without the buttons

Is smartglass launching in box for 720?

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

I can't wait until Smartglass becomes better. I have tried it on a few things.

Bought Dark Knight Rises and found out that Smartglass will only fully work if you completely download the movie before watching it. If you stream the movie from the market place, Smartglass assumes you are renting the movie and locks most of the content. It says you need to buy the movie to look a certain things.

For Xbox Karaoke on the 360. It limits the ways you can search for songs by genre only. You can not search by artist or song name, though you can do this with the 360 remote. Plus if the screen on your tablet/phone time out Smartglass disconnects. Once you turn your phone/tablet back on you need to reconnect Smartglass, sometimes this takes several tries and sometime the device needs to be restarted.

I have been using a Windows Phone 8 Nokia Lumia 920, iPad (G1) and a new iPad (G3) to play with Smart Glass.

When it is working, Smartglass is awesome. It just has a way to come.

It's good for menu navigation and media consumption. It's horrible however during games. Also with the first video, there's already a map on the main screen...

No more sitting through boring movies. Now you can read about the movie you are watching while it's playing

It is an app. Just an app. It connects over the internet to your Xbox account letting it coincide with it.
