ok this is what happened. i read the op, got distracted, took to long to post wht i was going to say, didn't want to read the op again, so i knew the thread was about east, west, and eastern games selling  witht the majority of western gamers wanting/liking eastern games, but sales not reflecting that.

COD is the reason for this. or am i still missing it cause i didn't re-read the op!

No no no no.  The thing is, I do notice a lot of people on the internet liking eastern games, or at least on forums.  Not just this website either.  But the thing is, even though they are vocal they still represent a very small number of gamers.  Beyond Nintendo published games eastern games dont do good at all while the games that get trashed on these type of forums are the ones people love.  

Are you asking why less games are sold in a country with a population of ~126m than the whole of the North America & Europe?

So you define hardcore now? lol Im pretty sure people put 100s and 100s of hours in games like call of duty and halo.  But people talk shit about it on the internet

The problem with JRPGs is that they have become bloated. In porely writen over complex story, padded gameplay and boring sidequests. Of course there are exceptions to this rule (Tales of Vesperia for one). I use to be one of the people in the west that ate up JRPGs, but that has fallen off a cliff for me. They don't cater to me anymore, since they are written more and more for the Anime crowd. This is not a bad thing, but it is not what I desire.

I also use to look forward to the awesome cutscenes in JRPGs and now I find them boring, not because they are not beutifully animated, but because the stories cater to much to the Japanese teanage angst that I can not relate to. Or maybe I am just not playing the right JRPGs.

To the OP, I'm not sure you are correct about more forums being focused on Eastern games, but the ones I visit are. Those are the ones I want to see and talk about. Though I do love the modern WRPG as well now. I keep hoping for JRPGs to advance, cut the bloat and clean up their stories so that I can be interested once again.

Why limit your scope to console games? Japan obviously doesn't discriminate between consoles and handhelds, they're now a handheld nation.

Also, you're comparing Japan to the rest of the world.  It should be obvious that the rest of the world will come out on top.

If you're just wondering why most people here prefer eastern games, the answer is that most people here grew up with consoles, which were largely dominated by Japanese games. WRPG's like Skyrim making their way to consoles is a relatively new phenomenon - their home was primarily on the PC. Same with shooters, Call of Duty basically replaced Counter-Strike.

Western games doing well has never been a new thing, the only difference now is that consoles are cannabilizing PC games (see: current whining about consoles ruining PC games). If ten years or so pass, and the current trend continues, the Japanese crowd will be thinned out on (general) console websites more and more, probably.

no no no no.  I am bringing up the issue with people talking bad about western games yet they are the ones that sell and get rated well.  These eastern games dont sell well ANYWHERE in the world and for the most part get rated badly too.  There is a select few eastern games that do well
