But its kinda dumb that features uninteresting for gamers will take off a big chunck of the RAM and 3.5GB is a huge chunck. I think it is wasted potential.

If what nnodley posted earlier (from a dev?) is true, then it is actually extra potential for the OS. No way that the OS is using that much now. Maybe they are planning something big in the near future? Still, 5.5GB for games really is a whole lot (and I think that most big titles should be able to get that). Especially when it's GDDR5.

Yeah my post was from a gaf insider who was talking with a dev. Could be wrong but it's the most clear info we got really.
Also Sony issued a statement now I think to eurogamer and they said the 1GB of flexible memory is dedicated for game use. So it looks like 2.5GB is reserved for the OS just in case. They can easily optimize the OS while adding features and never need that much so they can unlock more for games after 4-5 years. And then the 1GB of flexible memory can be used for games making it 5.5GB for games. Which is pleny for 4-5 years. Also let's keep in mind DF is using current sony docs from current dev kits not final ones or at least that's what it sounds like to me. The 5.5 is what they can use as of now and that might go up to 6GB or more once final dev kits are released.
