Just make sure you don't try to work on too many aspects of making a game and not improving your skills as an animator as much as possible. Especially if you want to work at a AAA dev at some point.  If you would like to stick to being mostly an indie dev with a couple other people, then learning programming and modeling skills would be great.  I had the idea to create a game as well, but I asked my contact at Blizzard and he said to only focus on the aspect you want to work in and develop those skills as much as you can. He said there really is nothing beneficial about it and you need to have amazing work on one thing instead of average work on multiple aspects of game development.  But I don't want to be an indie dev so I've just decided to build/model environments, texture, and then put it all into Unreal 4, UDK, or Unity.   That way that's all I focus on.

I agree with that, even in the animation field its always better to focus on one thing and improve greatly in it. and thats honestly my problem, im a jack of all trades but a master of none. i know modeling, texturing, lighting, rigging, fur, ncloth simulation,MEL scripting, rendering, composeting, motion graphics but i wouldnt say im great at any of them. the problem is i always wanna know and try something new. so i keep doing so and dont focus on one thing.

Right now though i wanna just understand how Unity works, and how game development works. i wanna understand the pipeline, understand how Engines think, and then i wanna see what i wanna be when it comes to game development. of course, for me at least, the end result for me is opening my own studio, thats what i want. but right now its taking the first step and getting to know what game development is.

Yeah I understand what you mean by learning the engine and the pipeline. That's pretty much what I'm gonna do over my summer break with unreal 4 but I'm gonna incorporate and learn the full environment pipeline as well.  I definitely got my eyes opened on that I should just master environment art.

Funny though we differ a lot in that you like learning a bunch of various skills whereas I only can think about creating environments. My mind literally races all day looking at the real world environments and thinking up different ideas.  But I do however want to open my own studio. That would be my full on ultimate goal after I work for naughty dog. I am dead set on getting a job there and I will!!

I'm talking about drive club.

DriveClub Dev Explains Why Game Is ‘Locked’ At 30fps, No Day/Night Cycles, Details FAME System

Paul Rustchynsky, Game Director at Evolution Studios explains the reason behind the ‘locked’ 30fps.

Paul Rustchynsky, Game Director at Evolution Studios have revealed that DriveClub will run at a ‘locked’ 30 frames per second. Last month’s inFamous Second Son runs at an unlocked 30-60fps but later on Sucker Punch released a patch that allowed players to keep the game locked at 30fps. However, Paul believes that they decided to lock it at 30fps due to consistency issues.

“The most important thing for a racing game is a locked frame-rate – whether it’s 30fps or 60fps. It’s vital that every controller input you make is consistent and also equal for all drivers. We chose a locked frame-rate for this very reason and with 30fps we don’t have to hold back any of the obsessive visual detail in our game,” he said in the comments section of PS Blog.

In another comment, he also confirmed that the game won’t have a dynamic day/night cycle which changes according to the real time on your PlayStation 4. “We tested this because on paper it sounds really cool, but when you actually play at the real time of day for a while you lose a lot of the magic and diversity. We allow you to customise the start time and the time compression (time lapse) in every race you set up, so you have lots of flexibility yourself,” he revealed.

He also detailed the FAME system which is used to level up in the game. “In DRIVECLUB every action you perform, whether that’s drifting in style, reaching insane top speeds or drafting an opponent to set up an overtake, you earn FAME. When you earn enough fame you level up and when you do you unlock new cars to race with! The same goes for you club. When your club reaches specific levels you’ll earn new cars, which everyone in the club gets immediate access to. It’s a simple and focussed approach that allows everyone to help each other to earn more and play more,” he stated.

Finally he also stated that they are looking in to releasing the soundtrack of the game. “We are looking into the options for this, because we love the soundtrack too,” he said.

DriveClub is due this October for the PlayStation 4.

I am Torgo, I take care of the place while the master is away.

"Hes the clown that makes the dark side fun.. Torgo!"

Ha.. i won my bet, but i wasnt around to gloat because im on a better forum!  See ya guys on Viz

I agree, as long as the frame rate is constant and equal for everyone then it should be a fun experience. besides racers like this don't need 60FPS. But damn does it look good.

Some sweet Driveclub details!

The length of the roads and race tracks in DRIVECLUB vary massively, with some that you can speed around in less than a minute and others that stretch on for miles. The longest takes 5 minutes end-to-end, even with your foot to the floor in any one of the quickest cars in the game!

We did try our hand at making even longer tracks and while it was possible, it was difficult to keep super long tracks feeling fresh and exciting, especially when you’re racing because the pack you’re racing with tends to break up the longer the race goes on.

All of the tracks that feature in DRIVECLUB are authentic and based on real world reference trips, but rather than just recreate reality we exploit the freedom of games design to make them more exciting and enjoyable!

The PlayStation Plus Edition hasn’t changed. It’s hardly a demo because you get access to all of the game’s features online and offline. The difference is that you only have 10 cars and you can only race in one country (which gives you access to 5 tracks with 11 distinct variants).

We will be showing you more of the game before and at E3, including direct gameplay captured from PS4.

We’re keen for you to see how much it’s improved since you last saw it, even for the areas where we’ve already achieved great things. Our artists have relished the extra time to add more cars and tracks and to add detail upon detail to the cars and tracks we’ve had all along. They’re all trying to one-up each other and exploit the power of PS4 as much as possible and they’ll continue to do so until you get your hands on the game. So you can definitely expect us to be proudly sharing updates with you for the rest of the yea
