It's been "available" (via snapshot version) for weeks if not months. They're working out the bugs - the features have been implemented for some time now. It looks like official release is next Wednesday. It looks quite interesting, lots of fun stuff to play around with.
I played tekkit for a long time, then took a few months off minecraft entirely. I've gone back to vanilla because it's actually difficult and doesn't take the MINE out of MINEcraft like Tekkit does.
Anyway, I am ready for the update. My map is largely untouched outside my spawn and a village 1000 blocks away.
