Forums - Microsoft - Michael Pachter "Next Xbox Might Cost More Than PS4"

Which will be the more expensive one?

PS4 87 34.94%

Nextbox 60 24.10%

Wii U 6 2.41%

Gaming PC 68 27.31%

My iProduct 27 10.84%

Total:248

I kind of hope it costs more than the PS4 and with that packs just as much, if not more of a punch in the hardware department.

I wouldn't mind dropping $300 on it and then doing the 2-year @ $15/month deal as long as LIVE gives us a PSN+ style service with some freebies.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

I doubt its going to be that much more expensive.

Kinect 2.0 will invariably cost more, but I don't see it adding more than $100 to the cost of the console. Given that they're going to probably push subscriptions as a way of subsidizing cost, it'd be stupid of Microsoft to charge anything above $399 for the console - I think they launch it for $299, pushing a 2yr subscription, with the console costing ~$500 to produce.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I really don't care about dropping $500-$600 on 720-ps4. I want premium systems. I don't want to spend $100-$50 less just to please some casual and feel like this hardware is a piece of shit 1-2 years later while they move on to angry birds 15.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

The Wii U will sell only around 40 million lifetime;..Pachter..Yeah I listened to the show =p.

If this thing is more expensive...and doesn't played used games....LOL MS

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

in a word... kinect.

if ms matches sony stat for stat on processing kinect would, imo, be more costly than the ps3 controller and "eyetoy". so yeah, probably a few bucks more unless they subsidize it with a mandatory subscription or are willing to take a significant loss per console.

Dual-Shock 4, I imagine, will cost a lot more than the new Xbox controller unless they also decide to add a more hardware like a touch screen or something.

I think the minor cost differences between controllers and cameras would cancel each other out. If MS keeps DDR3 instead of GDDR5, that's probably a good $100 cost difference right there between the two systems if they are otherwise very similar. 8GB of DDR3 is probably so dirt cheap at this point where as GDDR5 (and 8GB of it) is closer to $100-140.

I can't see the new Xbox being more expensive unless they have changed the hardware quite a bit over the rumoured specs or maybe they are including the projector thing needed for Illumiroom. I doubt it though.

Quote: "Next Xbox Might Cost More Than PS4" ...You don't say?

It's certainly possible, especially if they want to have specs close to PS4.

The whole bundling Kinect with every console is going to back fire on them.

It could:

PS4 basic model at 399 (premium a bit more expensive)
720 with Kinect bundle 429 or something

All of these threads/speculative articles assume MS are going to want a profit from day 1. They can afford to lose $2-300 per console without even noticing while sony can't afford to lose anything. MS will sell it for less than sony.
