Forums - Sales - Anyone giving priority to tablets/smartphones over next gen consoles?

Reality check for all gamers. Apple has sold 100 millions iPads to date and they cost $500, with that in mind a report shows that 40% of user use the iPad primarily for gaming. That means that you have 40 millions iPad out there used primarily for gaming, now if you compare this number to the number of 3ds and ps vitas out there you will see how big that is, specially when you have to consider that a 3ds and a ps vita together are less expensive that a single iPad.

Whether we like it or not tablets and phones are going to significantly affect the gaming market, for example i have decided not to buy a 3ds or a ps vita and instead got a new 4th gen iPad. Not only I'm able to play good quality games but i have the functionality of a note book included, plus the highest quality hardware in the market.

Edit: so yeah i am giving priority to my Iphone and iPad

"while 40 percent use it for playing games and enjoying entertainment. “Entertainment includes watching video, looking at photo and listening to music""

I'm struggling to think of something else someone would even use a tablet for other than videos, music, and games. But this 40% is not JUST games as you suggested.

The markets are completely different. I don't buy a tablet to play Call of Duty. This logic is just bunk. Tired of reading about it.

First i clearly said PRIMARILY for gaming, second I understand what you mean but think about it for a second is the same in gaming consoles, no one buys a console only for gaming any more. all consoles do the same things as most phones or tablets do for entertainment, search the web, listen to music, watch videos and gaming, so if only half of those 40 million use their iPad for gaming, plus all phone gaming and android gaming thats a lot whether we like to admit it or not.

I am the new kid in town!!!

My #1 priority right now is to get a gaming-capable PC. I've pushed back buying a tablet from 2013 to "Someday eventually" for that, so I guess my answer to your question is no. I'll probably even buy a Wii U before I get a tablet, assuming that Nintendo cuts the price this year.

oh god no

iPhone gaming sucks hard

I would like to add that maybe no one buys a Ipad for call of duty only, but no one buys a console for call of duty only. In any way i admit the market that will suffer the most out of this is the casual market. Tablet and phone gaming are clearly getting all the attention form casuals, and thats a gaming market even if some dont like it.

I don't even see the point of a tablet to begin with. Why not just buy a laptop, smart phone or IPod instead? I know Tablet reading is nice but few people read these days.

Nope. Tabs and and Smart Phones are for portable computing. I don't do any serious gaming on them.

Maybe in the future when we all have Mass Effect personal computers on our arm we will all have access to all games at all time and maybe then I'll do serious gaming without a console or gaming PC.

I just bought a Nexus 7 some months ago and thus am not considering spending more mony on entertainment atm.

Its simple, the laptop weight and size is overall bigger by a lot which makes em less portable and tablets are easy to use.
