Also, Jack, shipment trends, and sony quarterly reports all point to VGC massively undertracking the Ps3 more than the 360

Taking anything Jack says seriously is not the way to support your argument. He just blurted some random sh-t. LOL

Wow, so Sony managed to reduce the "headstart" of x360, which resulted in a diff of ~6.7 million sold, to 1.3 million in about 5 - 6 years. Impressive.

Wut, the gap was 9 million just before PS3 Slim released.

No it wasn't.  Never got above 8.

But that wasn't his point, he was saying that at launch it was 5.4m it had as an head start.  So it has taken 7 years t get from 5.4 to 1.3.

Incredible really isn't it, given the power of playstation.

Sure that's if you pretend that the PS3 wasn't released an extra half a year later in Europe (Sony's biggest selling region) and you also pretend the gap really is 1.3 million when in reality Vgchartz numbers need updating and the gap is much less.

That's why I chose to say "~6.7 million" as I took both YoY-numbers from 2006 *and* 2007 so that this excuse can't really be taken in. In short  just saying that the ominous "head start" was never really big and given all these years PS3 performed a bit better but nowhere to, as some say, "biggest comeback in videogame history".

I was replying more to kowenicki's post than yours.

It is kind of irrelevant. By now, so many people have bought multiple consoles for various reasons and many have just stopped using their consoles all together

The real thing that matters is software sales and money made, which M$ wins by far

This gen can count as nothing but an M$ win given last gen

Yep they played their cards nice. Also MS can drop price anytime and widen the gap. I suspect some are going to hold off on buying after the PS4 reveal. So I would suspect lower sales for ps3.

Not sure why the passing really matters. MS won everywhere they needed to win and for them to hold off Sony for this long was a achievement. They had RROD and went up against the highest selling console maker ever ( Besides DS). They essentially Split the market share and it is still in their favor. Gained massive third party support and got some more first party. I suspect next gen is going to be all about first party building and thats what we are going to see coming out of the gate from MS. They have been building up studio's for some time now.

So who really won over all? who gained the most this gen? 360 owns North america/UK and that is no easy feet. Now to build on that.

So Sony fans need any bit of good information they can get. Sometimes it's almost delusional.

Lol wow, just wow, to quote a word you used yourself, delusional.

I was replying more to the other posts that were meant to my post but yours seemed good to clarify my point.

Yeah incredible. A $/€200 premium price and a year(1.5 in Europe) later on the market.

If it wasn't for the 360S and Kinect hype, the gap would've closed years ago.

I know this  is a topic for another shitstorm thread, but that hasn't happened yet.  This site just can't track PS2 effectively, been that way for a while.  There have been threads about it recently.

Does this change effect any of your predictions for when the gap will close?

Some people seem so desperate to see the PS3 out of last place, but a lot of the sales of PS3 systems have been by people who use them almost exclusively for Blu Ray movies.  So if the PS3 does in the end outsell the Xbox 360, what does it really matter?  Almost all multi-platform games have sold better on the 360 and Sony's own PS3 games of late have not sold well at all.  As for me, I really don't care how many systems and one of them sell, as long as they are able to continue making great games.

Stop hating and start playing.

in the end, this gen was bigger for MS and Ninty, but Sony over came its obstacles. proving the strengths of PS.

Ninty became king of the mount for the 3rd time breaking the tie they once held with Sony.

MS managed to compete with the 6th gen.'s market leader, and beat it in many areas which no one saw coming. MS destroyed expectations, regardless of it's end position on the chartz for total console sales when the system stops selling.

Sony destroyed all expectations.(fanboys and trolls do't count) no one saw them lossing, no one saw them winning, now one saw them making up the ground takenaway from them by MS/Ninty.

Sony did the impossible as i see it. but in the end all that matters is ho won, and that's ninty. now the HD war isn't over yet. when games support stops for 360 and PS3, then the 7th gen. ends for HD consoles imo.

It's impressive that Sony turned PS3 sales around. The gap could be 1 million or 10 million. The thing that matters is that the gap is decreasing instead of increasing.
