Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Prediction made in February: Microsofts NextBox is a region locked media box with few games... *Revisited*

Shinobi-san said:

This was done in Feb Superchunk. It was rumoured then that MS would not do a pre E3 reveal. At that point in time there was no reveal event.

So take all the information from the OP and apply it to the reveal not E3. Obviously things changed over the months. Actual rumours of the pre e3 event only came up recently as in rumours from insiders, not random guesses from people on forums. Theres a difference.

And yeah MS didnt show much games at the reveal so i think OP was correct for the reveal. Whether E3 shows games or not is irrelevant.

And to be honest nobody saw the complete focus on multimedia coming. Nobody. Yeah people were saying it would have great multimedia capabilities..but not a single person predicted the complete and total focus on that aspect of the console for almost the entire reveal event. Which amazingly enough is exactly what happend...plus almost zero focus on games.

Both of us can probably spin this to suite our opinion but imo this is already done and the OP's info seems 100% correct and validated as of right now. If you choose to take the OP as is and not assume things obviously changed since Feb internally at MS then thats your own thing i guess. I dont see how anyone can prove they have insider info then if thats the case.

Not sure why you bringing up the other threads that is not being discussed here.

I agreed that the E3 should be reveal. Just that I always (and others) said there had to be a reveal prior to E3.

However, his OP states that there won't be many games for launch. I think E3 will prove that false and I not talking about the common multiplats like EASports and COD.

Bolded. Yes I did, last year. True no one could of said the reveal wouldn't show almost any game, but I did say last year in a thread that I recently quoted in my final I was right all along series, that MS would have services/media at the forefront and at least an equal footing to games.

1. Again theres a difference between a prediction and actually claiming you have insider info...well done on guessing correctly that there will be a reveal conference.

2. Yeah MS can make a lot of claims about 15 exclusives etc....but as of right now hows the exclusives looking for the XBone launch? Theres Forza and theres.....? Thats where i think OP gets it right. Again things can change over at MS.

3. Again, theres a difference between guessing correctly and claiming you have insider info.DS claims he has inside info and so far hes backed it up.

Like i said, as of right now the OP is correct. You need to look at this in context of the reveal event and the fact that this info was given in Feb. A lot can change in 10 months time. Thats really the only way you can judge this.

My oh my... who could have predicted the XBox One would focus on media... aside from anyone who's been watching Microsoft's E3 conferences from 09 onwards...

Region locked and media focus was a given.  But you even go that wrong... E3 is games. Lol

Very few games. Define "very few" please.

This is a load of nonsense.

When it comes to MS.... I'd wager I have more inside info than you.

I've been told it'll launch with 6 games. I don't know if that is exclusive games, or multiplat or what have you. But that's half a year ago, so things might have changed.

No offense DS, but I feel similar to Kowenicki about this. Your projections were so vague that anyone who works in our industry could have written them. The way you wrote them also leaves a lot up for interpretation, making it harder for anyone to prove your guesses/insight wrong.

You probably want to stealth edit your OP to replace E3 with reveal conference, btw. :P Unless you still think E3 won't be about games, which Microsoft said it would.

Naaw, I won't stealth edit, that's cheating :P

As you might have seen as of late I have claimed to have inside information of the gaming industry. I have tried to make people understand why Nintendo isn't getting any 3rd party support and I have made bold (but fairly vague wording to protect my source) predictions for Sony's upcoming e3.

And now I have inside information of Microsoft and their next Xbox. And it's no pretty read. Brace yourself.

First of all, this is nothing I'm actually predicting, but what I've heard from my source from a 3rd party developer working on nextGen titles...

TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT! My source has more info about the PS4 since that's what he's been working with, so I don't know how accurate the rumors found here will turn out to be.

Microsoft will apparently be focusing their e3 presentation around the media functionality of the NextBox, because they don't have too many games ready.

The 720 will also be region locked...

And it will launch with VERY FEW games.

Also, Xbox is losing one of their exclusive games....

I'll try to put this in the same way as my source put it to me (I don't know if this is speculation or what is actually happening right now over at MS): "They're running around shitting their pants [...] They fucked up."

With the little information I have right now the 720 will look VERY disappointing to a great many people. BUT, I also would like to point out that this certainly must be subject for change, and if the situation changes I will let you know.

considering how their reveal went I guess they are going to change their E3, right?

I hope they do at least! But from what I heard the last time, it's looking to be another out rage... But I hope they make a kick ass presentation!

We've got a prophet.

Based on your insights, is the Vita future looking any better ? Have you been hearing some positive chat ?

Don't go into specifics if you say you can't, just enlighten us.

Yes it's looking up for Vita.

If there was still any doubt about the bias of your source, this statement removed it for good. Nevermind that Sony themselves projected the Vita to do equal or worse than last year in the next nine months.

As for your predictions in this thread specifically, you were too vague to claim victory. That's something I already told you in one of your other prediction threads, that you are stating things in a way that is open to interpretation and hardly anything that is really bold. Had you said that Microsoft will have serious DRM in place (that's a rumor that nobody wanted to believe prior to the reveal) and given one or the other detail on it, then you would have something to brag about now.

First off, I only said that it's looking up for the Vita - I did not specify WHEN it'll look up for it. But I'm quite positive next year will be better. But I'm not at all sure how much better it'll do, but things should look up at the end of the year (or the next one). Yes, yes, I'm cryptic again. All I'll say is that PS4 should boost the sales somwehat.

Secondly I have too agree that I'm a bit too vague. I've actually discussed the issue with Aiylen - I'm just not good at giving hints =/ And I'm not allowed to spell it all out.

This post does make any sense...
Everything is either vague or given.

Region lock : well, I think everyone "predicted" that as the Xbox and the Xbox 360 were already locked...
Very few games at launch : huh? Define "very few"? And nothing is making me believe it will be the case so far...
Microsoft losing an exclusive : Which one?

So, everything in the first post - wrong.
