It seems like everyone is ignoring a part of an Xbox Live Gold sub that Sony does not offer, cross game voice chat. Only Xbox offers this service.

The closest comparision I can think of is a Ventrilo server. A 10 slot server goes for about $2 to $3 per month. An Xbox live party can hold 8 players and, as someone pointed out earlier in this thread, you can get your Xbox live Gold sub for as low as $2 a month.

Whether or not you agree that $2 a month for cross game chat is worth it is irrelevant. I believe it is, and that is why I pay to keep it. Sony doesn't offer it, and neither does Nintendo.

As soon as a different company offers the same service for less we can talk.

Vita offers Cross game voice chat, free of charge.

We are talking about home consoles here (Wii U, PS3, and Xbox 360). Vita is not a home console, it is a portable and its direct competitors are the 3DS and cell phones not 360 and Wii U. Apples to oranges. Xbox is the only home console that offers this service, and that is kind of implied.

Soo... Cross game chat on the Xbox 360 is like totally awesome becaus it's on a home console. But on the vita, it's not worth mentioning because it's a handheld and all? You know, you could just use your vita while playing PS3. It's a little inconvenient, but after all it's free. Besides that, I'm playing a lot of vita at home.

But with the PS3 it's really just a hardware issue. It's not about money. If the PS3 could handle Cross-Game Chat, it would be there, for free. And it will be there on the PS4, you can count on that. It won't cost a single Cent. It will be even able to Cross-Chat with Vita owners so you can even invite your buddies in the go.

Also lol at kain_kusanagi. You're really butthurt about PS+, aren't you?

You are missing the point. We are talking about consoles here. PC has free cross game chat through teamspeak and other services too. Xbox live offers a service no other console offers.

I'll assume that the idea of using Vita as a cross game chat device for PS3 is a joke or something, because they aren't exactly giving those things out for free. The cheapest Vita you can find is $250. So you will have to convince everyone you want to chat with to invest that kind of cash. Xbox party system is a heck of a lot easier to set up compared to getting all of your friends (who would have to each buy a Vita) into a Vita party just to have party chat on PS3.

Also, we don't know for sure if the PS4 will have cross-game chat in a fashion similiar/better than 360 or Nextbox. We don't know if it will be free. At this point, we can count on nothing. They didn't even show what the system looks like yet.

I will reconsider the options when we have more concrete information on the PS4 and Nextbox, but for the remainder of this gen I will be sticking with Xbox largely because of this service alone.

Kain_kusanagi you should stop posting already. You are making yourself look bad. We are basically comparing at the moment PSN with Xbox live. Basically PSn does everything that Xbox live does and for free. PSN+ offers a lot more for a cheaper fee and it is optional. So at this point we should be focusing on PSN, Nintendo, Steam which provide a free service.

Why do you keep bringing Halo up? Doesn't make sense. The topic  here is " Is it worth to pay for something that you can get for free on any other platform" and you start talking about PS players can't get Halo. Another example how you lack arguments and just throwing random stuff here and there trying to justify this? I would respected you more, but with the Halo posts. No words.

Halo is just one example of what PSN doesn't offer that XBL does. That's the point. If you want to play XBox exclusives online you need XBL Gold and if that means a tiny fee so be it. I've said many times that if XBLG was free I'd be happy about that. Free PSN does not replace the need to play Xbox exclusives. That's the heart of the issue. Sony fanboys act like nobody needs XBL because PSN exists, but you can't play games like Halo on PSN. As good as Killzone is, it is no more a replacement for Halo than Halo is a replacement for Killzone.

I made this topic because I'm tired of the argument. My opinion of PS+ and the words I've used describing it have never been full of the hate that gets spewed at XBL.

So even in light of the PSN getting closer and closer and now being equal in offerings where does the superiority come from? It cant be games. Theres no servers Microsoft pays for, they slip you the bill and the person with the best speed is the master of the server.

I didn't make this thread to justify why MS charges for XBLG, that's not my job. I  made th is thread because people enjoy games like Halo, that PSN doesn't have, and they pay for XBLG to do so. It is the cost of admission. I'm tired of people being treated like idiots for enjoying amazing games like Halo 4 just because PSN is free. If you could play Halo 4 on PSN I'd cancel my XBLA subscription. Like I've said many times, if XBLG was free I'd be happy. I don't even like stuff like Hulu and Netflix being kept behind the Gold wall. What what I don't like even more are the attacks on those of use who enjoy games like Halo 4, Gears, etc.

Halo has nothing to do with Xbox Live. Microsoft wont let you enjoy your $60 purchase without paying their troll toll. They should be thought of as seperate. Dont include Halo in the cost of Xbox Live because if you do then the feeling of a rip off tends to get worse.

Depending entirely on your point of view. Many others might find it perfectly reasonable to view the XBL exclusive games as perks to using the service.
