Just a question : What is the rectangular plug just left of the 3.5mm headphone jack ?

My first guess would be a charging port.
My second would be a microphone port--which is actually more likely, given the positioning.
EDIT: Just took a look at my PSP's mic port. There is a resemblance.

Not a charging port, this one is located below the light bar in front of the controler
PS4 will come bundled with a headset, so it could be the port for that.

I see. Yup, it has to be for a microphone, then.

It's the new charging port. Unless you see another port for charging, that's it. The 3.5mm jack can be used for a mic, can it not?
EDIT: nvm see where it is now, probably a mic port.
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

On official documents, it's listed as an extension port. That's all I've seen.

I won't be using it if it's a headset one. My Pulse headset has a regular jack and awesome 7.1 surround with bass and virtual surround sound! That's one PS3 accessory I know I'll be transferring over!
