Danne are you trolling us? If Nintendo said devs will have access to 1gb for games why should they get less?

I'm sad to tell you I'm not trolling =( this is all things I've heard from within the business. I don't know anything more than you do. I have no idea why Nintendo is doing this. My source says he thought it might be because Nintendo will bring out a NEW console rather soon (sooner than thought anyways), but that's all speculation

sorry man your friends friend doesn't sound reliable at all I mean there were a lot of people expecting Killzone 4 and PS4 being as powerful as the rumors say anyone could tell that it would look amazing

Nintendo never let power be the deciding factor into releasing a new console because others have much more power. releasing a new console will only damage Nintendos image

was this person Pachter btw?

We buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo games not for third party games, and there will be third party support in some capacity, understand that Nintendo systems are not the same as it's competitors, I'd we want major third party support then we but a Sony/Microsoft console

exactly

Yes, that pretty much sums up my reasoning...

interesting stuff.
thanks for the clarification.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

He could have, but I trust him because of all the things he said about KZ4 and vita. He also gave me an article from eurogamer with an interview with criterion and pointed out that they had had problems at first and that the help they received was a better dev kit with more RAM. Read my 2nd post in this thread.

The thing with dev kits is that they continue to evolve leading up to launch, because the console itself isn't finalized. Better tools being available for games that are supposed to release several months after launch (as opposed to launch titles) is pretty much a given.

Also, we are looking at a case where developers were told that they have more RAM available. I could understand non-finalized specs being a problem, if projects had to be scaled down to fit a new size, but the opposite is the case here.

Which company does your source work for?

Can't tell you what company.

And this limitation of the dev kits were apparently unveiled like 2 months before launch... I think they should have had the specs finilized by then. And as I said in the OP; this has been going on since the GC days.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

so I guess no response means I was either too close or you aren't taking this seriously?

I'm sorry man, mind re-posting? I'm having my ass full right now with replying everyone...

So this is how I read it:

  • You predict PS4 will be sold for $350 US, in some form (ie: maybe slightly gimped SKU along with a higher end, more expensive version).
  • You also predict the return of a franchise to PS4 that hasn't been on a Sony console in a while (this could be anything from Monster Hunter or Dragon Quest to Oddworld or Spyro or Jack & Daxter as far as I understand - could be 3rd party, could be 1st party, etc).
  • You predict a PS4 remake of a game that has previously appeared on a Sony console (again, anything from Resident Evil 2 HD to Final Fantasy 7 HD to Crash Bandicoot HD  - 3rd or 1st party, same as before).
  • You predict a former Xbox exclusive moves to PS4 (sounds like Gears of War or something of that caliber if you say it will cause meltdowns.)
  • You predict a big online service coming to PS4 (I'm guessing Steam from how you're emphasizing no one will see it coming)
  • And if, say, two or three of these come true by the end of E3 then we should believe you that:
  • Nintendo is locking away access to features and capabilities of their consoles, not only during hardware development but during the lifetime of the hardware on the market, and have done this in previous generations as well.
  • Nintendo has canceled an important 3rd party Japanese game for no good reason.
  • Is this accurate?

This is no rumor this is actually true since SNES or even NES era in recent times N64 and access to μcodes, Wii and access to WiiMote

haha no, it wasn't pachter :P Like I said, that part about releasing a new console was mere speculation from his part...

And the reason why Nintendo would give 3rd parties gimped dev kits is because to have an edge over them apparently...
