Because... the demo sucked. That's right. It was a terrible demo of any racer I have ever played. First off, the graphics were just wrong. Screen tearing partially everywhere, you can literally see it tear on the mountains. The water is just plain fake. Like they colored the ground textures blue and just straight put them out there. Models were just fine though, expect for the hazard bees.
Oh, and the framerate? Ha! It can't keep a simple lock on framerate. I thought the videos made the game look bad, but now I see it was the game itself that was bad. My god it is bad sometimes.
I didn't have any problems with the controls. Though, drifting was a bit odd.
Sound-wise, I was not impressed. Some of the sound effects were missing.
The demo had only one character to play as (Sonic obviously) and no customization options available to use. Just pick him and drive. Next, you choose a stage and you race. The race was easy (yes, I chose Easy). No one tried to hit me with items whatsoever. I guess the challenge is only available at higher difficulties; however, there are only three to choose from (Easy, Normal, and Hard).
The next stage (Golden Axe) wasn't a racing stage, it was a challenge stage where I had to reach a 4 checkpoints in a time limit. Let me tell you this, it's broken. Broken because you have to do this perfectly! You literally have to do a perfect run just to pass it! Come on now. And yes, this is just on Easy! It was on Easy so why...
I stopped playing after that. I think I could unlock more stages to play if I collect stars (which you gain one by completing a stage), but I didn't stay to find out. Sega, how could you put such a demo out here? Is this what the full game is like?
Overall, I was not impressed by the demo. It was bad and I hope this isn't what the full game is like.
