IGN was hit with editorial layoffs today, with sites 1UP, UGO and Gamespy expected to be shut down.

"We are focusing on our two flagship brands, IGN and AskMen. Unfortunately, as a result, we have made the decision to close sites and restructure our teams accordingly," a company spokesperson confirmed to Joystiq.

:( 1UP really had stepped up its game since going to a magaziney style. I'll be sad to see them go.

1UP never seemed all that popular anyway. Never even heard of UGO...

1UP was about the only tolerable part of IGN. Sad to see them go. :/

You can't spell "IGN layoffs" without IGN.

This is bad news and Ryan Clements from IGN got laid off too. Depressing stuff, I loved him on the podcast.

IGN are going to sell off IPL as well. If they don't find a buyer it might shut down TT.

The hell is Askmen?

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Sad my first forum was on Flashplayer a rival site to Newgrounds, then it got eaten and taken over by UGO who in '10 killed the fourms, then it got eaten by 1up and now it's dead...

Former something....
