Just returned from my local EB store where I traded in a heap of old games and now have paid off the Australian place holder price for the PS4 it came up as $899 but they dropped it to $800 and suggested it should come in well under that . the PS3 launch price was $999 but the Aussie dollar is way higher now than then, so I have now paid the PS4 off aswell as some PS4 launch titles Killzone , Knack , Watch Dogs , Witcher 3 , Destiny also had enough to pay off my PS3 pre orders Bioshock infinite , the last of us and beyond . so I've taken my first steps on the road to PS4 gaming .

PlayStation 4-enabled lighting tech, Enlighten, receives major upgrade

When the PlayStation 4 is released to the world, gamers will be receiving the best content available, and the same can be said for technology like Enlighten from the up-and-coming organization, Geomerics.

According to official information sent to Examiner.com today, Geomerics' is getting a major upgrade to it's state-of-the-art lighting technology, Enlighten.

This upgrade will be focusing heavily on making the workflow of gaming artists much easier to execute across different platforms.

The company and its tech will be on hand to show off its innovations at this year's Game Developer's Conference. This is another advancement for the company as they have already confirmed being a system that is going to work with the PlayStation 4.

Dr. Graham Hazel, who is the Geomerics’head of development, talked about the system and how it is in high demand from many development studios.

"For example, in the past, artists had to set various parameters to control Enlighten’s performance. Many of these settings are now computed automatically."Enlighten is being actively used by some of the largest development teams in existence. This is giving us a huge amount of feedback on where bottlenecks may occur in workflow. The results of this feedback are that we are able to find increasingly sophisticated ways to automate processes.

"We basically adopted a design philosophy that allows Enlighten to do the sensible thing in nearly all cases, and only requires artist input for a handful of scenarios where the right approach may be ambiguous," Hazel said.

Fans will remember that little game that is upcoming from BioWare called "Dragon Age 3: Inquisition," right?

Well that game is just one of many being powered by Geomerics' lighting system, and the tech has already been listed as one that will be used for PlayStation 4 gaming development.

Those who are in attendance at the Game Developer's Conference should go check out the Geomerics booth and what their company has to offer. You'll get a chance to find out more about some next-generation technology.

PlayStation 4 will be released this holiday season.

Are Trophies Coming For PSone and PS2 Classics?

A new Sony patent would let it happen seamlessly.

I admit it: I love me some PlayStation Network Trophies. And one thing that’s always frustrated me is the lack of Trophy support on PSone and PS2 Classics, as well as older pre-Trophy PS3 games like Resistance: Fall of Man, Heavenly Sword and Folklore. But a new, recently-filed Sony patent application may solve this problem.

Sony has filed a patent application (via NeoGAF) with the following abstract:

A method and apparatus for adding trophy support [to] games that do not have trophies without modifying the original game. The method and apparatus are used to detect particular disk access, use the detected disk access as potential trophy triggers in games, and recognize the triggers while a game is played. Trophies are awarded based on the triggers, and the awarded trophies are stored.

What does that mean? It’s simple. Games that don’t inherently support Trophies can -- with the technology behind this patent -- be remotely patched without ever having to alter the original title. What holds many companies back from going back to patch old games for Trophies is the cost of doing so, not only with internal resources, but because the game must be recertified thereafter, which costs extra cash.

You can see the full 12 page patent application here.
