Forums - Gaming - 3DS Have A Potential Price Cut To Rival PSV?

Will 3DS have a price cut this year? (soon)

Yes, Original+XL will be $149.99/$179.99 24 11.94%

Original+XL will be $139.99/$169.99 14 6.97%

Yes Major Price Cut 4 1.99%

No, but have a New Model 28 13.93%

Not At All 130 64.68%

Total:200

Price was only one of the Vita's problems. I don't think the 3DS is in any trouble.

I bought my Vita for $229 bundled with Ass Creed III Liberation and a memory card. I think if you do the math it kind of has been as cheap or cheaper than the 3DS for a while now.

I'd rather have them have a WiiU pricecut.
I'll buy a wiiU this week if they cut price by 70$

Well Im not sure if still doing the deal but Cosco hada price cut on the systems! Basic $244.99 or Deluxe $299.99

There seem to be a lot of people; both in this thread and multiple other threads discussing the Vita's price; talking about how it has been this cheap for ages now and how they bought their Vita for this price already.

So, genuine question now: Does anyone know how Vita's price situation has been in Japan?  Is it regularly discounted to below ¥20,000?  Have there been any temporary price reductions similar to Black Friday for the USA?

If the answer is no, then that means the price cut is going to have more effect over there since they just haven't been used to seeing those prices.

If the answer is yes, then this post by BaldrSkies pretty much sums up the effect.  If retailer reductions were already making it to as low as ¥20,000, then a reduction in MSRP will mean that they'll be able to reduce the price even further.

Either way, all this talk about how much people from USA & Europe got their Vitas for seems a tad redundant regarding an official Japanese price drop.

i can see a price cut coming at the end of the year possibly, depending on how this year goes for the system and if more games come out which support cross play with WiiU like MH3U will then i think it will be a good move to boost sales even more.
Cut to stay competitive against the vita? it doesnt need it

We shall see if it was the high price or the lack of games that was making Vita struggle.

I highly doubt it. While 3DS is profitable now, it can't be making a huge profit, what with it being sold at a loss after its original pricecut. Besides, it's set to have a monster year (quite literally, with Monster Hunter 3 & 4, and Pocket Monsters x & Y), I doubt Nintendo will need any sort of pricecut to drive sales. Maybe some new bundles, and a few new colours seems very likely. 3DS doesn't have much to fear from Vita.

Why in the heck are you even comparing the two? It seems very unfair and insulting to compare the Vita to 3DS right now, the 3DS is obviously the better choice right now. Vita has no system sellers and it's overpriced. I honestly see no reason to keep mine. A portable Dragon Quest VIII would be nice but I don't see it ever happening. Nintendo may seem kiddy but they've got the most 3rd party support on their 3DS. Wait until Vita is a bit stronger to judge the two.

Nintendo as become profitable on the 3DS not too long ago, why would they go and cut the price again?

Didn't they already do a second price cut for holidays in US?

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

They won't cut the price. I can see them making a redesign though. They can implement the second circle pad and shape it to feel more like the 3DS XL with Circle Pad Pro, which is much more comfortable to hold.

A redesign to match the release of Pokemon? Charts would explode...

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.
