Animal Crossing hits the 3DS in the West in June and Pokemon is coming in October; those titles should (Pokemon definitely will) boost sales in the West. Add to that the combined effect of Luigi's Mansion 2, Fire Emblem, Mario Golf, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Mario & Luigi Dream Team, Lego City, Monster Hunter, Brain Training and more coming in a six month period, and 3DS should finally start selling off the strength of its catalogue in the West, rather than just on the back of blockbuster games. It helps that Nintendo have two blockbusters in Pokemon and Animal Crossing, and another Japan only (so far) blockbuster in Monster Hunter 4.
All in all 3DS has a fantastic release schedule lined up globally, whereas last year it was only Japan that had an excellent line up on a consistent basis. Nintendo don't need to move on price even if Sony repeat their price cut in the West, Nintendo just need to advertise their games and watch the 3DS install base and software sales rise.
Assuming that Nintendo need to respond to a price cut for Vita in one territory is foolish, really. The price cut is what Vita needs globally, but the problems of expensive proprietary memory and a complete lack of must have software have no answers in sight. Sony need to show that they have software coming on a consistent basis to turn Vita around and boost the system in the long-term, whereas Nintendo's prolonged mission to boost 3DS's momentum should finally pay off globally this year. I want Vita to succeed--the more games dedicated devices doing well in the current climate the better--but believing the price cut is of any significance to 3DS just doesn't make any sense. Sony need to concentrate on the software, just as Nintendo have done.
