Will 3DS have a price cut this year? (soon)

Yes, Original+XL will be $149.99/$179.99 24 11.94%

Original+XL will be $139.99/$169.99 14 6.97%

Yes Major Price Cut 4 1.99%

No, but have a New Model 28 13.93%

Not At All 130 64.68%

Total:200

3DS has MH 4 and Pokemon in the horizon. They don't even need one. DQ 7 was release 3DS sales exploded.
Just like some posters said above. It's now wise to cut the price because their profit will surely suffer. WiiU is not doing so hot right now. They need something to counter that.

I sure hope so. I was on the fence a year ago, but thankfully a friend borrowed his 3DS to me, and after finishing Mario3DLand and MarioKart7 I didn't use it for months.
But I'd like to get one for Paper Mario, NSMB2 or Mario Golf. And it's going to be inevitable for the new Zelda they're going to announce at E3.

It's too expensive currently. I'm a bit turned off by the low screen resolution, especially on the XL - it feels a bit behind the times.

They don't need to cut the price at all. The handheld is selling by the bucketload in japan.

The Vita, even with a price cut, is no competition to 3DS, and Nintendo recently started selling it at a profit. So I don't see any reason why Nintendo would or should cut the price.

if they were to do a price cut they should focus on america and europe as japan needs no extra help. but honestly i don't see vita stealing too much thunder for the 3ds. vita should see a jump but even if the jump is 2x... going from 30k weekly to 60k weekly isn't much of a threat.

If this was 2014 maybe.....

But Nintendo should roll on the profits its getting from the 3DS to counter the low Wii U sales for now.

They could be giving PSVs out for free and the console still wouldn't threaten 3DS sales. I'm not even sure if Nintendo's first 3DS cut was retaliatory, but, at this point, Nintendo is plenty aware that there's not very much Sony can do to steal 3DS's thunder so they needn't acknowledge it.

it's not a competition of who lowers the price it's about systems selling or not. Vita is not so it needs one 3DS is so it does not plus you have all the games coming for it not like at the beginning of it's life.

Even if the 3DS gets a $100 price cut the PSVITA will dominate it. Hehe

Animal Crossing hits the 3DS in the West in June and Pokemon is coming in October; those titles should (Pokemon definitely will) boost sales in the West. Add to that the combined effect of Luigi's Mansion 2, Fire Emblem, Mario Golf, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Mario & Luigi Dream Team, Lego City, Monster Hunter, Brain Training and more coming in a six month period, and 3DS should finally start selling off the strength of its catalogue in the West, rather than just on the back of blockbuster games. It helps that Nintendo have two blockbusters in Pokemon and Animal Crossing, and another Japan only (so far) blockbuster in Monster Hunter 4.

All in all 3DS has a fantastic release schedule lined up globally, whereas last year it was only Japan that had an excellent line up on a consistent basis. Nintendo don't need to move on price even if Sony repeat their price cut in the West, Nintendo just need to advertise their games and watch the 3DS install base and software sales rise.

Assuming that Nintendo need to respond to a price cut for Vita in one territory is foolish, really. The price cut is what Vita needs globally, but the problems of expensive proprietary memory and a complete lack of must have software have no answers in sight. Sony need to show that they have software coming on a consistent basis to turn Vita around and boost the system in the long-term, whereas Nintendo's prolonged mission to boost 3DS's momentum should finally pay off globally this year. I want Vita to succeed--the more games dedicated devices doing well in the current climate the better--but believing the price cut is of any significance to 3DS just doesn't make any sense. Sony need to concentrate on the software, just as Nintendo have done.
