this topic is the one which sony fans talk about the most isn't it... ms fans don't seem too fussed either way. funny that.

They are not fussed because they haven't got a choice in the matter. If they want to access the online features of the xbox they have to pay simple as that. This argument has been flogged to death at this stage.

They have a choice..  they can get rid of the 360 and buy a PS3 for instance.  They dont... why is that?

Because they have invested in the hardware already? Bought games, made friends online and got achievement points. Most gamers don't want to lose that so again they have no choice but to pay it.

No. They have a choice.  They also had a choice 5, 6 and 7 years ago when there was a free alternative.

5,6 and 7 years ago, the xbox was a lot cheaper than the ps3. Why would they ditch their ecosystem they have created on xbox live for a console that was more expensive on first glance than the console they already have? Back then, the choice was simple. 7 years later, it is very hard to justify xbox live when you have other alternatives that do the exact same  thing except for free.

Next gen is going to be interesting. Microsoft will need to justify Xbox live even more now that PSN has come along a lot. The premium service Sony provides for $49.99 a year eclipses anything Microsoft can come up with right now.

and still they are outsold massively in the most consumer centric and biggest single market in gaming.

In what?? It is called marketing, unfortunately Sony has been terrible over the last 6 years. I hope they can improve it next gen.

ok, well I'll leave you sony guys to talk about this.

Thank you mr microsoft guy for letting us sony guys discuss this in peace!! Easy with the labeling. Don't reply if you have nothing else to add if that's all you're gonna do :S

That's not exactly a choice. If you ALREADY have the system and want to play online, XBL is what you're gonna have to get. Simple as that.

Like I said, its sony fans that this seems to matter to the most.

Because we wouldn't be happy about paying this much every year. It's sad there are people in the world who are NOT questioning this.

lol.  "its sad that people in the world arent questioing this".  lmao.  Get some perspective man.

So yo are doing this out of concern for your fellow man?

This is gold.

That's rich coming from you!

There is a word for this kind of mentality where people don't question anything. My only concern is if Sony and Nintendo will want to follow suit.

whats that word?

They wouldn't do that. It's their hook to get people to get the service, if they made online gaming free, like Sony and Nintendo, they would probally loose 75% of their Live revenue, if not more.

As for paying more, yeah I can see them increasing the price $10-to-$20 more a year

They have plan

Even if xbox live was free people will still complain about it...

Then again it are mostly the people who love to pay for PSN plus to get free games ....

I think the idea of paying to play games I already bought is absurd, and I refuse to ever do it. I don't care about features that has nothing to do with games, and raising the price will only continue to make me choose multi-platform games on other platforms. Really, if many of these rumors flying around is true, I doubt I'll even get an Xbox 720. Starting to worry this next generation will suck on all fronts.

None of those are worth paying for. So no I'll scrap the Xbox brand at the end of this gen if Live still requires you to pay for MP (which I think it will). At the end of the day that is all I care about from my gaming console: Playing games.

Well, I don't use most of the Xbox Live sevices that they provide. I just play multiplayer online and I can't warrant paying $60 a year for that when Nintendo and Sony offers it for free. Of course, if most of my friends are playing the next Xbox then I may be forced to give in and buy the NextBox along with a Gold membership.
