Wow, at 3DS. Not much over DS, then. The PS3/Wii doesn't make sense, though. If Wii is 124K, and the total for it and the PS3 is 357K, that would leave 233K for the PS3. That's actually closer to the 250K. Anyway, it looks to be ~80K-90K undertracked. I wonder if its possible for the PS3 to actually become #1 in the US for at least one week this year. I mean there is only a ~50K-60K gap between it and the 360 this month. Maybe after the drop to $199 and/or the release of some of its big exclusives this year.
The confirmed ranges for all devices...
360 - 281K
PS3 - (201K - 224K)
3DS - (126K - 149K)
Wii - (101K - 124K)
DS - (58K - 74K)
Wii U - 57K
Vita - ~35K
PSP - ~10K

You can't cross these numbers...
At least ps3 was undertracked big a nice amount. Something positive
Vita numbers are horrid...but those 3ds numbers are pretty bad too..at least way below what I expected them to be. Fire Emblem is releasing this month right? That should certainly help ..especially with that really nice looking blue FE 3ds

Sony usually doesn't post numbers, regardless of how well the PS3 has done, so we can't tell anything from this. However, Nintendo usually always puts out a PR statement, even if sometimes they have to add some spin to it. The fact that there is nothing from them says a lot. Using MS release we can calculate Wii and PS3's numbers, though. MS was at 44% of current gen HW with 281K. This leaves ~358K for the Wii and PS3. I can't see the Wii being over 120K, which is still up ~20% YOY, so that leaves 238K for the PS3. Now, some people think MS added the Wii U into those numbers, but I highly doubt it for two reasons. First, MS stated specifically "current gen." They could have just said all home consoles, as Wii U is the only next gen console out at the moment. And secondly, if they had included the Wii U in the current gen equation, this would have been a cheap shot. This is an official press release, not some random statement from an exec or an ad for the NeXbox. They wouldn't have used a press release to take a cheap shot at the competition, as it would look unprofessional. |
Were it any other year I would agree with your sentiment, but this is supposedly a launch year, and that means that public relations becomes a true blood sport for the entertainment of the masses. Both Microsoft and Sony are going to try to outdo one another in the court of public opinion, and like it or not they get some serious points by playing dirty. Floating the notion that Nintendo doesn't have a next generation console is something that Microsoft would do in a launch year. Just like they floated the notion that the PS3 would see a serious price cut all of two months after it launched. Which seriously hurt the consoles short term sales, and cost Sony hundreds of millions of dollars. This could just be the first salvo of their dirty tricks campaign.

I thought Nintendo pulled the plug on the DS?
