Forums - Gaming - Schell Games CEO and Puzzle Clubhouse creator insists game demos harm game sales

I think he's probably right, and have heard talk about this in the past, especially with some genres where a demo really fails at being able to communicate the entirety of the experience.

With RPGs, for example, at what point do you begin the demo? At the beginning, when you run the risk of making your game look simplistic? Later on, when you're throwing stuff at people who don't have the basis to really grasp what you're doing?

From a personal standpoint, more games have lost me because of demos than have made me a customer. If someone downloads a demo then they're likely already interested, so it's probably more rare to gain a new customer that wasn't there before than to have someone change their mind.
