ITT: we discuss how third parties are followers and not leaders.

Which explains the entire problem in a nutshell. There's not an ounce of initiative outside the big 3.

i would say that the only company other than the big 3 that has initiative is rockstar. they do have their style but they do try to push boundries, and successfully do a lot of times

Oh, plenty of developers have initiative, sure, it's the publishers that lack capacity for original thought. TakeTwo doesn't really care about how Rockstar pushes the envelope, they just see "moar GTA."

Look at the Rayman situation..A game that was developed especially for Nintendo's new hardware, utilizing all the unique gampad features, and what happens? A complete game is suddenly held back several months so it can ported to Microsoft and Sony platforms thus denying WiiU owners the chance to play the game now.

And this is a 3rd party dev Nintendo is supposed to have a decent relationship with, Nintendo have no hope when it comes to 3rd parties sadly.

Nintendo just didn't pay Ubisoft off enough!

That would require full reboots for most of those IP's, certainly for Metroid.

I don't know if a reboot would be required.

All that they would need to do is push the game marketing wise, show the public that this is a game they must have. That's what I was talking about.

The reason why those IP aren't bigger, is because fo their limited appeal. The lack of marketing follow the limited appeal.

And that limited appeal could only be "solved" by a full reboot story and gameplay wise.

Another thing i've noticed is that Nintendo loves to keep their customers waiting. They have been asking F Zero for long time. Nothing there. Pikmin was suppose to come on Wii but the entire generation just skipped by. No complaining there from Nintendo fans as they'll buy the next iteration of their console and game. This happens for other publishers too but you can see how negative the outlook is for FF13 versus and The last guardian compared to Pikmin 3.

I would think that's a good thing. Nintendo not wanting to milk all of their franchises like they do Mario should show people that they actually tried hard on delivering the best experience for this new game, example would be Pikmin 3. Some times people get mad because they wait too long, most of the time they don't, because they know Nintendo will actually one day come out with it. Or at least give us some info on it. (Something that we aren't sure about with Last Guardian/VersusXIII.)

But, Nintendo probably should tell us some more than they do for some of their IP's... (AKA, F-Zero.)

Well i generally agree. It is well thought out and as you can see the conspiracy theories are already in the comments. What i have come to realize is that Nintendo only gamers want third party games but their taste over the years have changed and are met my Nintendo games.

Always saying things like COD is not for us or Red Dead Redemption would not be able to compete with Nintendo games (I know different genre). There are also some fundamentalist and yes they exist in droves in gaming world. These are people who don't want any third party games. You can find some or at least one in these comments.

Nintedo does their own bizzare solutions to accepted gaming conventions. The friend codes were one example. The games you buy on virtual console not being tied to your account but rather the hardware is another. It might work for some but why is there no option for the other.

Another thing is that they really didn't support their best selling home console after its 3rd or i guess 4th year. You have 100 million people who have the console and are ready to buy your games but you got nothing. You push out your mario karts, 2d/3d marios, some kirty, a metroid and some others. All great games but what was there in the end. A zelda game long in the making and 2-3 JRPG's customers had to sign petitions to get. That is just horrible.

This not supporting the console with games is why i switched from xbox 1 to PS3. They pushed out Halo 2 (In Wii's case Skyward Sword) and called it a day. In this case though they have close to 4 times the install base to cater to compared to original xbox.

Point is you really got to like Nintendo games or in some cases Nintendo games only to go for their home console as your solo entertainment gaming device. They do take one step forward but two steps back. I really want to support them and i do as they hold a special place in our gaming hearts. They just don't always make it easy though.

This is really the natural answer that everyone's getting out of the thread: Nintendo needs to bulk up their capacity. Signs are hopeful in that regard, between their reaching out for more partnerships and their building a new facility in Kyoto (and doubling the size of EAD Tokyo)

Good post, and I can't really argue with most of what you've said.  Nintendo is fantastic at some things but they're also well behind the curve in others.  From a holistic approach, they would need to improve areas like account management and their online experience besides increasing their investment in other genres if they want to steal away core gamers from Sony and Microsoft.

What? ZombiU sold over 320k Globally. Sold around 170k in Europe.

Edit: Changed the region.
