Forums - Sony - PS4 will be bundled with next gen PS Eye, report claims - Head and hand tracking

Of course it's going to be bundled you need it for the new dualshock it tracks the light on the front

How is this a bad thing? Microsoft is doing it with Kinect so Sony kinda has to do it too. Call of Duty Ghosts will have voice commands on Xbone, so will the PS4.

Video Chat? Check
Signs You In? Check
Voice Commands? Probably

There's nothing wrong with achieving feature parity on Day 1 with the competition.

Dualshock 4 works fine on its own and the light bar works independently. The camera only adds addional functions which if we're honest, are just gimmicks.

most posts seem to like the bundle idea but hate the fact that kinect is bundled with xbone funny eh

Gotta laugh at MS fans who think this is anything like the Kinect and XboxOne. Is PS4 Eye required to be hooked in at ALL times? No. If the PS4 Eye breaks, will the system no longer work or allow me play games? It's not required, so no. Does its inclusion show that Sony is focusing more on casual gaming over core? Nope. Can't really say the same thing about Kinect and MS. Anything to justify MS's decisions and focus, I guess.

Personally, I can't wait to try out the new camera. Motion gaming is definitely not the main way I game, but it's fun with the right games. It will be interesting to see how much the have improved head tracking.

I guess you have a good point...but i'm not sure

Being hooked in at all times is a bad argument since it can be turned off and has privacy settings. That is the point after all.

Saying the X1 won't work/play games if Kinect breaks? Now thats just baseless propaganda.

If this is true, it means they are bundling a optional accessory with the PS4, just like Kinect being with every X1. Simple and basic comparison.

And funnily enough, you tout PS Eyes improved head tracking, when kinect 2.0 can do that and so much more, yet you condem it.

Gotta laugh at uninformed fans that use double standards....

Baseless propaganda? Open your eyes man:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/21/xbox-one-will-not-function-without-kinect-attached

"Xbox's UK marketing director Harvey Eagle has said that the console will not function without Kinect connected. 'Kinect DOES require to be connected to Xbox One in all cases, yes'"

They are open, I just see context better.

"without kinect attached". thismeintiel referred to a "broken" kinect preventing your X1 from working. A broken kinect can be still connected, just not working...pretty much the equivalent to you turning it off in privacy settings.

So, just because it breaks, doesn't mean it is disconnected.

Ps4 Eye won't be required to be always on, there is extremely little chance it will be an integral part of the OS. Cost wise, Ps eye +  Move controller was already a lot cheaper then Kinect. Kinect 2.0 uses more advanced tech, ps4 eye only adds a second cheap webcam and most likely won't ship with a move controller.

My counter would be why bother.  If developers cannot depend on every home having at least one move controller than they pretty much will develop for none.  It limits the device and make it so that support will be mininal.  One thing I have to give to MS and Nintendo is that they take risk and go all in.  They will reap the rewards or burn but at least they do not try to stay in the middle.  Sony on the other hand likes to stay safe.  They like the middle but it can make so so products because they never commit to them.

The camera works with the ps4 controller, and standalone. Move only games will still be there but with limited support indeed. It has limited purpose anyway. Even if it is shipped with every console, most devs will still ignore it. It doesn't make sense for a lot of genres. Anyway you might as well say why support local multiplayer if there's only one controller in the box.

Sony probably has enough of high risks atm. Last time with the cell and blu-ray they dug themselves in a pretty big hole. They took a risk again anyway by gambling on bigger GDDR5 modules to be available in time.

Baseless propaganda?  So you think it just needs  to sense that the cord is plugged in and that's it?  If that was the case, then people could just cut the cord or 3rd parties could just make a plug end to fool the console.  No, I'm sure the Xbox One must receive a signal from the Kinect itself.  In fact, the rumors stated that the camera must also be connected AND calibrated for the console to work. So, if that is true and the Kinect breaks, then yes, you have a nice paperweight of a console.  Even though the console itself is fully functional.

And to actually think that people are opposed to the Kinect, just because it's bundled?  That's ignoring the truth of the matter, as well as deflecting all the negativity pointed at it as just fanboy rants.

Actually its the games that I am talking about.  You need the move controller to use the Eye as a game device and not including it in the console limits developers from programming to it.  Why would devs ignore a device that ships with every console and also included the controller to make the magic happen.  The reason they would program to it is because it works.  If every PS4 has the Eye and controller, then developers who want to program to the device can at least feel confident that if 1 million PS4 are sold there are 1 million Eye and move controllers to target.
