They all flopped because they were mediocre, and just like mediocre games like DW and some JRPGS the sales will be similar.

I put it up against huge games? WWE 13? The year old Arkham City? Kid Icarus Uprising? The 5 year old Smash Bros Brawl? Mario Party 9? These are hardly MW3 or Assassin's Creed 3 we're talking about... What games do you think would make a good comparison?
And where is this idea that PSASBR had no advertising coming from? It had an open beta. There was an E3 demo. It was at Evo. There's a youtube commercial with 3.8 million views. There were 3 in store demos in my local best buy (one on a PS3, one for the PS3D Display they have up, one on the Vita). Two at Target (PS3/Vita), 2 at Gamestop (PS3 Vita). These decisions are made on the national level so I'd assume the story was the same everywhere eles. I saw the commercial with Kratos many times. The game had tons of coverage on websites. This wasn't some sort of super secret launch. What game with a comparable marketing effort sold worse?
And, can you please explain to me how a price drop on a 3 month old game is a sign that a game is very well? Did Sony say "oh gee we're selling a lot of these. Let's lower the price so we could get 20 dollars less for each unit we sell." How is Sony telling Superbot "we don't want you to make any more games with us" a sign that Sony is happy with the sales?
If you want to argue that the game is good, or it deserved better sales, then that's fine. Arguing that it's successful is delusional.

You know 500k units is pretty low for a AAA game right? |

How about neither marketing or whatever for PSASBR? How abou it is also a niche title to, that isn't going to win over the Smash Bros. crew to buy a PS3 just for it, irregardless of how good it is? How about also it isn't a type of title that would appeal to the Playstation demographic either? Titles can be niche and not do huge, no matter how well executed? And how about Sony not follow Smash Bros and do brawling differently in a way that is really modern in gameplay? |
I persoanlly thin there is a big crowd for that sort of game. Supersmash is one of the Wii more core titles. Of its 12m in sales, I think a large portion of them would either own a ps3 or 360 in addition to their wii. But the main reason why I state poor execution is that I'm a supersmash bros fan and wasn't going to get the game (but my brother did instead). From the begining me, alongside the majority of the peeps on the intertet were discussing how awkward the game looked and how unimpressed we were, although there were obviously a few in its defence but there were a minority. And ultimately a game with mediocre reviews is never going to reach its sales potential compared to a game which is lauded by critics.
Starhawk should have been a 1m+ seller.
It had such a cool concept and really fun gameplay, only reason I didn't get it was because due to the lack of interest and sales I knew that the multiplayer would probably die fast.
LMAO, I can't believe the team had large lay offs, sony has separated themselfs from them and people are still trying to push that the game was success. Those 2 things tell us more then any sales numbers or comparison, because ultimately we don't have sony's internal documents to see what it was expected to sell or even its budget, but when was the last time a successful game (from a new team) was immediately followed by layoffs and dismissal from their publisher.
I enjoyed the game when I finally got it but lets not delude ourself.

Sony was so happy with the game that they wanted to make sure the development team had a nice long vacation.
Can people stop a minute and think a Smash Bros. inspired title (I am being polite by saying inspired) with Playstation characters may not be exactly something that masses of people want to play. Has anyone bothered to think the concept has limited appeal in and of itself, no matter how well executed?

Sony fans vocally demanded such a game basically since the success of Super Smash Bros. Melee, so I think if it had been executed properly such a game could have been a massive success.
The real way we can say Sony sucks at advertising their games is if The Last of Us flops.....the game has all the potential in the world if it flops I will be seriously disappointed!
