Next-gen Killzone is a PS4 launch window title, VideoGamer.com source's comments suggest.

Killzone 4 will release later this year on Sony's next-generation PlayStation, an industry source has told VideoGamer.com.

The unannounced game, which our source claims is currently in development at Guerrilla Games, could be revealed during PlayStation Meeting on February 20, where Sony isexpected to unveil PlayStation 4.

Sony has tended to announce new games in Guerrilla's shooter series alongside its hardware reveals.

The platform holder released a trailer for Killzone 2 during the announcement of PlayStation 3 - something which was later criticised for being a "target render" rather than a true example of the console's capabilities.

It also confirmed that a Killzone title was in development for PlayStation Vita at the time of the handheld's announcement.

Our source's comments suggest that Killzone 4 could be a launch window title for the unannounced hardware, which is rumoured to go on sale by the end of 2013.

Guerrilla Games' latest release was Killzone 3, which released on PlayStation 3 in 2011. In addition to Killzone 4, the developer is known to be working on a new IP.

SCEE declined to comment when contacted by VideoGamer.com.

It makes sense, since Guerrilla's main studio will have had two-and-a-half years to make something.

But no. I hope this doesn't happen. It'll just overshadow Killzone Mercenary. Get that released & out of the way, then reveal Killzone 4. Have something else to show off PS4 at launch.

i doubt it. i'm sure GG new shooter they've been working on will launch with PS4.

New IP first, Killzone already has a fanbase to work with.

I don't want another dark FPS, may be make it more colorful change the opposition from Helghast to human or something else. Much like CoD changed their initial approach toward WWII to modern era.

I dont really mind what they make, just looking forward to the 20th and hope it gets here sooner rather than later :)

Released day and date with Killzone: Mercenary, no doubt.

I don't think it would overshadow Mercenary.  It might even help build hype for both.  It worked pretty well with AC:L and AC3.  I would LOVE it if they packed in some kind of bonus in KZ4 for people who played KZ:M.
