Forums - Nintendo - When Nintendo goes software only in the future I hope they go on over to mobile only- That will show developers and the HD twins!

Nintendo will never go software only, their ip's move systems single handedly, and they are smarter than they are greedy.

I actually think that many large publishers and (potentially) Sony and/or Microsoft will be out of the gaming business long before Nintendo ... There seems to be a certain suicidal quality to their business models that they don't seem willing or able to restrain.

Nintendo is highly successful with the 3DS, and will likely be able to rebound with the Wii U to turn it into a successful system, and be able to release successors to these systems. In contrast, depending on what Sony and Microsoft produce as consoles, many large publishers won't be around to see Nintendo release their successors.

it would kinda be awkward if they were forced to go back to Nintendo after all these years lol.

Square Enix:  Hey buddy remember FF6?  We totally had your back those Sony guys never meant anything to us!

Hey they gave Nintendo Dragon Quest! and some FF offshoots.... yeah that's about it.

Nintendo has said that if their hardware goes down, they're taking their software with them.

As Nintendo continues to license Arcade games.

Would you count that as a counterpoint to what he said?

Nintendo started off making Arcade Games.

It shows their willingness to put their software and franchises on platforms other than their own.

"When"... interesting choice of words. You're not familiar with Nintendo's business philosophy are you?

I read an article about these Arcade Games that Nintendo was funding or whatever. It doesn't seem like this and converting to mobile are of the same discussion. They seem to be two seperate things. (Nintendo is liscensing these Arcade Games, they are also funding them.)

Yeah, arcade games are completely different than mobile.  There is probably some kind of modified Wii U hardware running the new Mario Kart GP or whatever it's called.

Yeah it's not saying they are moving there right now, just saying that on the strange off-chance they stop making hardware, they wouldn't burn their software with it.

Could see a future where there's a unified console "OS" with multiple hardware makers as opposed to the 3 (soon 4) isolated platforms we have now. Like PC, dvd, TV, blue ray. There might still be room for a segregated player, like Apple is in the computer area. I think microsoft would be happy to exit the hardware side of consoles as long as it owned the OS and ecosystem. MS only gets into hardware when it's under threat. They only got into consoles because they saw PS and OpenGL as a threat, and they only produced the Surface tablet because they know 3rd parties are probably more committed to Android than W8 and tablets are a threat to PC / laptop so MS needs to be in there.

Ninty could end up software only, butnot in an environment where Sony and MS are relatively unchanged in the console arena.

Have you heard of seppuku?

Nintendo makes you do it with a Wiimote in front of Miyamoto if you don't fill out your monthly smile making quota

With a Wiimote? if only you knew...

not to sound rude, but i beleive sony will drop out before nintendo. Its those very own 1st party exclusives keeping the nintendo hardware alive and getting people of all demographics buying them. Nintendo games are not kiddie, they are just for everyone, and mostly everyone likes them.
