Always online will never happen (until everyone and their monkey has fast internet access that is; still a good decade or more away).

Blocking second hand games just makes consoles even more like PC's, so long as the games are tied to YOUR ACCOUNT and not YOUR CONSOLE.

If they are tied to your account, you could still go to friends' houses and play the games as long as you can sign in to your account there. This makes much more sense to me and is very much like Steam games and the like. Actually this is basically how it is right now for all digital download games on 360 already. Linked to account.

These are ridiculous rumours. There is no way either of them will do that. There is still a significant part of the market that doesnt connect online, they would be limiting their audience if they did that, despite angering and possibly suffering the backlash of consumers displeased.

They would have to be insane to do that.

I have a hard time believing that MS would do it without Sony doing it too, it's too risky. So what if they had both agreed to do this and the next XB and PS blocked 2nd hand and had always online?

Will you still buy one of them (or both)?

Will you get a WiiU instead?

Will you game on PC?

Will you stop playing altogether?

Personally, I'd be royally pissed off, but I'm not sure if it would stop me from buying one eventually. It would surely delay my purchase until I'm sure it's well worth going through that though.

the one thing everyone is forgeting is used consoles. gamestop can make used consoles play used games. and i'm sure hackers will find away around it aswell.

Thats another good point. That is inviting the hackers, wich will result in more piracy and lost game sales.

Wouldn't buy either of them.

To answer the topic, it wouldnt be goodbye gaming, but it would be goodbye Microsoft and Sony. Nintendo is our rock... sometimes beeing old fashioned is for the better.

If that's the case, goodbye Sony and Microsoft for gaming. I'll still get a Vita but not a PS4, since Vita doesn't block second hand games, but other than that, i'll just go to Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii U and PC. These companies can't be allowed to do this, and we can only influence them by voting with our cash.

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

They going to offer a way for people to let go of content and be able to get new content at a reduced cost?  If not, look for stuff on razor thin margins that barely break even to go under, and the industry to get dominated by either a few top games, or straight low budget DLC.  Sleeper titles will go to the wayside here.

This could be the beginning of the end people.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
