Forums - Gaming - How much does next gen hype kill game hype for current gen?

How much of an effect will this announcement have?

It'll kill software sales 4 23.53%

It'll hurt them a little 6 35.29%

It'll have no effect 3 17.65%

It'll depend on BC 3 17.65%

It'll help them for no reason 1 5.88%

Total:17

I've seen a lot of people saying the Feb. 20th PS4 announcment (hopefully) will kill sales/hype for GoW, Beyond, LoU, Puppeteer, etc.

In your experience (I wasn't around for the last home console launches of Sony and MS) how does this effect sales?  GoW will be fine I'm sure as GoW2 did fine on PS2 well after PS3 was out, let alone released so I don't see it as much of a factor for a big game, but how will smaller games fare?  Is there any history to look at here?

Last of Us and Beyond will be fine, these are titles that most of gamer have being dreaming about for a long time now. I predict 4 million lifetime for Last of Us and 1,5 million to Beyond.

Puppeteer is pretty much fucked.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Rain is digital only and is much smaller, isn´t? I don´t know how PSN titles do, they never tell us... What do you think?

I think it'll be profitable but overshadowed so it'll never reach Journey, Unfinished Swan, and/or Flower levels of love.  But if it comes out in June, July, or August then I think it could make some noise due to a slow release schedule.

You are probably right. The last games of interest for me this gen are THE LAST OF US, BEYOND 2 SOULS, South Patk RPG and GTA5, then I am pretty much done with PS360, I can´t stand any more genneric first person shooter, hope they go away next gen and survival horror reborns...

I'm getting LoU and GoW at launch but after that I'm waiting for Farcry 3, Tomb Raider (depending on reviews), Beyond, GTA5, Puppeteer, and Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 for either my birthday or Christmas or when they get down to $30.

I see. All good ones, but I had my fill of GofW and Castlevania, could not even pass the Shadow of Colossus stage on that one.

Puppeter and Far Cry 3 could be awesome, but I really not that interested, but I am pretty sure Tomb Raider will suck, bought that last one and, man, fool me once, shame on them, fool me twice, shame on me...

I would recommend going back to Lords of Shadow.  The vampire part (the second third of the game) is simply AMAZING.  It easily makes the more clunky/boring sections worth it through awesome enemies and atmosphere.  I'm hoping the second keeps with the vampire theme throughout.

I'm split on Tomb Raider.  The MP looks awful and yes it looks like it's copying a lot from Uncharted, but I never play MP so I don't really care about that.  I also watched a dev diary recently and the exploration looks fun and varied.

I still own Castlevania, so, why not? I will try.
