Forums - Gaming - Can WiiU memory be in real performance faster than XboxPS3 memory?

A very informative read on WiiU design, and how it actually compares to Xbox PS3

just a bit:

ll these numbers we’ve mentioned are the theoretical maximum bandwidth. In real conditions, the observed performances will be inferior to those advertised with in a few occasions huge variances, as shown by this

It possibly means that this abstract disparity could be lessened in practical situation. If the real sustained bandwidth is let’s say roughly 20% inferior to the marketed top, then as the Wii U peak figure is smaller than for Xbox 360 to begin with, the gap in absolute numbers will be reduced although the proportional difference (-43%) between the two will stay the same which is the most important.
2 – The Wii U RAM real bandwidth might be closer to its theoretical peak than for the Xbox 360 and PS3. It could be explained by a more modern memory controller that better handles the data flow from and into the RAM.
3 – We also must take into account several intricate concepts of bus and direction of RAM. For starters, the 22.4GB/s bandwidth of current gen systems buses is often an aggregat

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Even if the RAM is more efficient it is still very slow.

Like I have said many times before, Wii U units were producing the Zelda and Japanesse demo's in E3 2011 in real time. That 's all I need to know.

it clarifies how memory bandwith really works

Conclusion: Poor theoretical numbers don't mean it's slower than 360/PS3.

But the question is, how much faster? About the same? Slightly better? Or a noticeable leap?

i would say WiiU is slightly more powerful in every aspect than a Xbox, which would put it clearly beyond current gen imo, the first number it was used is pretty accurate, WiiU is 50% more powerful than the Xbox.Period.

50% and similar numbers are meaningless except when comparing specific benchmarks or stats. For our purposes, the question should be: could 360/PS3 do THAT? If THAT is the Wii U games and demos so far, the answer is yes. It remains to be seen if optimisation can change the answer to the question.

The article was interesting. I think I know a little more than I did at the start, but not much more.

The general impression I get is that it's like the NFL Draft. You could look at the stats, combine number, 40 yard dash figures, size, etc and make a decision based on that, but your conclusion could be wrong. Sometimes a guy puts up great numbers (Jamarcus Russell) but completely sucks, and other times a player looks merely ok (Russell Wilson) but winds up being really good.

discussion is pointless... Wii U is ~2x that of PS360 overall. Games are already coming that will show this in literal terms.
